    Hi BHW,

I recently started up an Etsy shop where I sold trendy jewellery sourced from Aliexpress. The shop was open for one month and I managed to get one sale, but today I got an email from Etsy telling me that they've closed my store due to violating their handmade policy. Yet, there are dozens of shops on Etsy selling exactly the same products which have been open for years and have hundreds of sales. I'm absolutely certain their products come from Aliexpress too, as they're exactly the same as the ones I was selling.

How do these stores manage to stay open? Why was my store closed and theirs wasn't?

I'm new to the world of online money making, so please excuse me if this has been answered somewhere before.

Were you taking your own pics or were you using stock pics? Using stock pics is a dead giveaway that you're reselling mass produced jewelry.

You may have been reported. I was also trying to list some items that were being sold on Etsy, which werent handmade items. I didnt get away with selling many of those however some sellers did that there. It's a ticking bomb selling items that dont fall into their policy

That's why there are so many merchants engaged in this sort of activity. Many of these merchants are the same exact people and they are hedging their bets by having MANY stores opened so that if/when one or a few stores die - their revenue stream remains intact. I'm certain the other advice given in thread about images and exif data is correct, and that many of these stores get closed based on that, but also due to reporting at times. That's why it is a good idea to have several stores. You might be able to control image stuff, but you can't stop competitors or angry customers from reporting you, so it's best to be a bet hedger with extra stores.

Don't waste time thinking about it, start working on your next store. If you break ToS/violate selling polices then it will happen from time to time.
You need to look legit so look at legit stores.
Take the advice above about stock pics, take your own pics and write unique descriptions including how you make the jewellery etc.
Send the product from where you are based so everything looks like you are making the items at home in your own workshop.

Also, if you're selling designer knockoff jewelry from AliExpress, you will get reported. A LOT. Stay away from stuff like Swarovski or Tiffany knockoffs, unless you want to be making accounts every week.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I was actually using my own photos, except for one listing where I just couldn't get a good shot. None of the items were designer items. I guess I got reported (maybe other sellers doing the same are actually reporting their competition?), or Etsy found me because of that one picture.

Does anyone know if I can start a shop with the same account? I'm trying to reopen the store, but it doesn't seem possible.

That effort is much more efficiently spent making more listings on eBay, amazon or etsy.

You usually get a product review request from Etsy before they ban you for selling non-handmade goods. If you didn't get one, they basically decided to ban you right off the bat. I would guess you got reported by a competitor. Etsy sellers in certain categories are little girls basically.

Etsy sellers are the equivalent of everyone on their periods in one place. Even the men are little whiners.

Seriously, there are a lot of people who sell 1 thing a month on Etsy and spend rest of their time trying to take down other peoples' listings.

Notice how everyone here complains about how much eBay sucks but everyone who's been banned are desperate to get back on? It's not because it's easy to build your own site to replace the income.

LMAO. The inevitable and unavoidable eBay cycle

First you love them->Then you hate them->Then you need them

It is based on the whims of Etsy employees. Some get banned, some dont. Try to open and maintain a few shops to protect yourself.
