After a couple hours of research online I have found out that every day 100+ CB sites are created to sell e-books, products, etc. to consumers online. I have decided I am going to build an entrepreneur journal on how I am going to reverse engineer the process of CB clients selling their products to consumers and sell my services to them. With that I had to figure out what I could offer them, so I noticed some sites are in need of updated templates since theirs are outdated severely. Since there are over 100+ sites added daily then their are over 36,000 a year built and after time they will need updating.

Now I don't have a portfolio built but do have web design / development under my belt from building sites / squeeze pages / updates to clients here and DP. The reason I don't have a portfolio is because I lost everything once my HD died on my last computer. Anyways I plan to build a portfolio with clients I work with that have been reversed engineered from CB and build up returning clients for site builds, etc..

Every day I am going to round up some emails 10-20 and send them a professional email about web development / design and see what the response is updating sales pages and more. I am hoping to get 1-2 sales a day to begin with and after a while outsource work for clients. From this very start here are the stats of my journal.

    - Emails Sent // 1
    - Response // 1
    - Potential Sales // 1

Since I sent this client an email, he has been sending me emails regarding the job and is looking to purchase the service of having a sales page updated and having his current design reworked. The quote for this job was $80 and 24-48 hour time frame and he agreed that it was acceptable. I am just waiting for a reply back and I should start this job immediately since we have discussed everything already. I have asked for a 25% upfront payment and 75% upon completion.

I will update this thread more than once a day... I currently work Tues-Fri 5:30PM - 4AM so this is going to be part time and see if after a couple months I can turn this into my full-time job. If I can make $80-160 every day my salary will be $29-56k yearly starting out so lets see how this goes.

Thanks for sharing :) I'm a web developer as well; so this is an interesting thread for me (not stealing your idea though). Some questions: how do you plan to imrove their websites? Most have a decent wordpress template and graphics, so which way will you improve on that? Will you use wordpress templates or general website templates? Did you make those yourself?

@Qravija - Its all about what you think you can correct on their site and send them a professional email on how you think you could improve their site. Make sure you give them professionalism so that they don't think you are a newbie trying to learn how to design. You say they have great graphics and themes but just go threw CB and click every site and eventually you will run into crappy ones that you can definitely improve. Also I use WordPress and get premade themes and build them into a customized niche theme that suits the clients needs.

Well I received bad news today and after 2 weeks and 1 day at work my assignment has ended along with 10-20 other people due to a lay-off. Now I guess this is going to be my new job for right now and see if I can just do it full-time but I am still going to be looking for another job.

On the bright side I said I would update on the status of my journal daily and I have a couple updates.

Last night I sent 4 more emails which isn't as many as I wanted to complete but works in the beginning. From those 4 emails I have not received a response which means the product owner may not check their email daily or was not interested in my service. The first email I sent which makes 5 and total has brought me one sale of my service which is $80 and is sitting in full in my PayPal. Now its time to work on this clients site and send some more emails. Will update soon!

Nice work. Next long term step is to integrate the product. I.e. selling your client's products but make them significantly better.

Why not offer a referral service? Offer a good incentive for your client to give you more business and you should get some business rolling in.

@Meneers - Excellent idea to boost profits of reversed engineering. I will look into what types of specials I could offer clients to refer more clients to me.

I am also looking for a partner (web developer / designer) that would be interested in some work on the side. Tonight I am going to be sending out at least 30 emails and should receive some responses and buyers for services tomorrow or the next day. I will be offering a 85/15% deal which means the designer will receive 85% of commission and ill receive 15% for making the sale. For example if I sell a update / redesign then I will keep $12 and the designer will receive $68 out of $80.

@Mr4Army - Thanks for the motivation to keep building this from nothing to something...

Currently I am still working on the clients product page that I sold for $80. He wanted to keep using the thesis theme but since I am the "professional" as he said and he was open to whatever I suggest I decided to use a different theme so that I have home-field advantage and do a lot better job by the end. So far the product page is getting better... all that is left is a header, content fixing (may outsource), and adding a couple buttons and plugins for things such as purchasing the product and contacting the client and I should have it completed.

    Estimated Time Left: 1-2 Hours

I really like the idea of this thread - it's nice and detailled so far unlike others on the forums. I hope you can keep it up so that we can all get an insight on your operations! It's great to see how others work so that we can criticise our own methods and see whether we're working in the best way or not.

I'm extremely intersted in this proposition - do you have any examples of the work that would be required?

We can discuss this privately if you'd prefer that.

    Dean.

@DeanK - I will send over a private message soon discussing the operation.

I have completed the first project and just waiting on client approval before I start really searching for the next client. Total profit out of this project was $65 because I paid $15 for a professional header to save times and not cut corners. While this was being created I was focusing on fixing content and finishing up on the site. Will update on clients satisfaction.

So far today I have sent out a couple emails and searching for more work... I am going to start looking in other places other than the sites that I where looking at. Going to be looking for people who are needing reviews of their sites and then talking them into purchasing my services.

Its been a while since I updated because my internet got disconnected for about a week but the first day reconnected I got another sale for $60... I am outsourcing the header work which leaves me at a $50 profit for a couple hours of work.
