enom is raising prices to $40 per domain for registration!
Are other registars doing the same?
This can't be legal to incrase the price by 400%?

Eh... what do you mean it cant be legal?
Because I buy an apple for $1, that means I can't resell it for two?

I remember telling register dot com to suck it shortly after learning about internetbs. They had the audacity to ask why I was unhappy with their service and I said "why pay more than double for the same exact thing?" their reply was that their service was the "best" lol! Like my domain name would be spelled in gold letters or something...

They can do what they want.

And you can do what you want by taking your business to another company.

This is a little confusing.

Valued eNom Reseller,

In July 2011, eNom was notified by VeriSign that it plans to raise the cost for their respective TLDs on January 15, 2012. As with previous VeriSign price increases, eNom must adjust our Reseller Tier pricing such that we can absorb the increased costs for reselling VeriSign's TLDs.

Historically, eNom has always been resistant to raising our prices. We understand the price sensitivity of our Reseller base and we want to provide domain names and value-added services that allow our Resellers to remain competitive in this market.

Unfortunately, based on this announcement from VeriSign, eNom must modify our Reseller pricing tiers to address the increased cost of reselling these VeriSign TLDs.

The purpose of this notification is to inform you on the new eNom domain name pricing.

Effective January 14, 2012 the new eNom Reseller Pricing Tiers will be:
Premiere
$9.00
Volume
$10.50
Basic
$11.50
Alternative
$12.50

Sincerely,
eNom Support Team

You don't buy subscription to an apple.... good example.
It would be like starting a new registar and sell domains for $5. Then after you have a shitload of customers, make up some bullshit how prices increased and jack it up to $12. Maybe not a bad idea actually lol.

Enom's renewal rates have always been extortion, are you referring to the cost of register new domains or renewals?

I think it's both.

Enom
That is correct, the new pricing will be $39.95 per year for single registration and renewals. I notice you currently have 3 domains in your account.

Me
Holy shit, and that's legal? Talk about bending people over, huh?

Enom
Unfortunately , Verisign is raising the cost for their TLDs so we have to modify our pricing to account for the increase. However, by renewing your domains prior to January 14th, you avoid the price increase while locking in the best rate. This is one thing many of our customers are currently doing.

Me
Isn't verisign increase prices by $1?

Enom
There have been several price increases that occurred throughout the year that we did not pass on to our customers. Unfortunately, this time we needed to modify the pricing to address the increased cost of reselling these TLDs. We hope you understand that we do not like to increase our prices just as much as you don't like having to have increased account pricing.

It'll be funny when the idea bombs, and you guys change the prices back and beg your customers to come back.

hope namecheap don't do this as well. is it just them doing it, or will this happen everywhere?

I have a feeling they're going to lose a lot of customers even if they do a slight increase :D

Namecheap is going to increase prices but not that much!
Domain Price Changes Soon on .com/.net/.biz Domains

VeriSign and Neustar have decided (again) to raise prices for .com, .net, and .biz respectively. As a result, on January 14, 2012, our price for a .com or .net registration or renewal will increase to $10.69, and on January 31, 2012, our price for .biz will increase to $10.26. Renew your domains now to save money before the new year

well... 39.95 is ridiculous. i won't be going anywhere near them. they'll lose heaps of customers... i've never used them, and now never will!!

there's no way people are going to pay them that much when they can get the same thing elsewhere for a quarter of the price. they're digging their own graves there.

there's no reason for it other than greed, and they're going to be the losers in the end!

Lol, is this a real chat? Hilarious.

I'd be willing to bet $ they back out of the raise last minute and instead make it like 7-10% raise like everyone else is doing and this is all just a stunt to drive renewals for multiple years. There is no way they are THAT dumb to think a large enough portion of their customers will stay after they raise prices to $39.

$39.99 for a single domain? They should refrain from altering the price too much, their customer base could rapidly diminish.

continuity at its best my friend.

I think the days of getting domains for 10 bucks are almost numbered though.

$40 for a domain!

What the heck is going around nowadays.

I wonder how long can they hold out at this price!

Yahoo charges $35.00 per domain

Take a look at Network solutions charges for two .com's plus privacy for one year:

These companies are doing quite well because they have plenty of buyers.

You may not be willing to pay $35.00 a pop for a domain name, but others are more than happy to. They FEEL as though they are getting better service and blah, blah, blah, LOL suckers! :nana:
