I employ several remote employees but I don't have a good system in place for monitoring their work.

Currently I'm monitoring their work via teamviewer which I have setup on several monitors. However I'm looking for a an application that was designed for this purpose. I'm looking specifically for a feature where my staff can login to somewhere and then a live feed of their desktop be automatically made available to me and have the hours logged for billing purposes.

I tried using spector pro but I find it causes MSN messenger to reset frequently, my employees kept complaining that there was a "virus" on their pc's and eventually I had to remove it.

I have had the same issue with other monitoring software. I wonder if there is one that really works.

Although it does not give you a constant live feed, the monitoring software I'm using is free and acts as a time card, logs keystrokes and mouse clicks, and sends screenshots every few minutes live, so you can get live glances of their work. It is called 'my team monitor' and you only need to register at their website (just google myteammonitor to find their site) and you'll get further instructions after registration. You will get a total of the numbers of minutes they worked each day, so it should be appropriate for billing purposes.

If you want to remote control their computer, you can google for a remote spy.

it sounds like you want to spy on your employees to ensure they're doing work and not surfing the web. I'm not aware of any tool that will do this besides screen sharing apps.

You could use gateway software to block sites that are non-productive.

I think that's a horrible idea. Most of those apps end up blocking sites you might actually need to do your job.

nobody does this in the real world. The simple solution is set a schedule w/ deliverables. If they deliver on time, then what do you care if they are surfing in their downtime? If you think they have too much downtime, add more deliverables to the schedule. It's how every company I've ever worked at functions.

All major US corporations use them and the blocking via the listed categories can be very granular.

If I was in the same position as you I would just go with Odesk. Not only can you track your employees , If their not getting the job done you could just find a new one.

Checkout http://www.agentguardian.com. Designed specifically for this.

It's not a live feed but it takes screenshots every 5 mins. A continuous live feed would eat up tons of bandwidth and resources anyway.
