Im a total newbie at SEO. Ive read some stuff about it here but never actually tried anything except autoblogs but with no success. So Id like your opinion on this. Is it a good idea to add "how to" in front of the EMD ? for example: howtoloseweight.com Lets say in Googles SERPs there is no such domain on page #1 (there is actually but this is just an example) For the sake of example lets say in top 3 for "how to lose weight" are: #1. ask.com/lose-weight #2 loseweightnaturally.com #3 ezinearticles.com/lose-weight. Can this work as a longtail keyword? Its a competitive niche so is it possible to outrank these competitors by making a EMD like howtoloseweight.com ? For the actuall SEO Im planning to use the standart stuff like link building, article submission, xrumer blasts. So is it a good idea and why/why not?

Sure. You can use this to rank the main KW, or "How To KW" if that has any traffic too. Just check the exact match traffic with google keyword tool, and the competition with something like traffic travis or market samurai.
