Hi, I've started internet marketing about 2 years ago, but it wasn't consistent all the time. I have set up a few Adsense sites and earned something like $50-200 per month, but now it's just stuck at 50. Anyway, I want to try other ways to make money. First, because I don't earn very well with Adsense. And second, I don't want to put my business under the risk of Google SERP dances.

One of my sites have collected a number of emails, around 1k targeted emails, and I wanted to try out email marketing with Clickbank products. But I am a complete newbie when it comes to email marketing.

I am unsure about the following:

    1. How to send mails? - Should I use a service for this? Like MailChimp, but I heard they're banning affiliate marketers now.
    2. Should I add in the affiliate link directly in the email? - Will this be ok for the receiver? Will it be considered spam by their email clients?
    3. Should I make an attractive html email or just plain old text email?
    4. How do I write the content of the email? - Should it be personal and look like a customer wrote it? Or should it sound professional and business-like?

Can anyone give me a guide or tips in doing this? Thanks a lot in advance!

    1. Correct mailchimp don't like affiliate links (will close your account - see t&c's) - I personally use aweber and am quite happy with them.
    2. You can include affiliate links directly in your mail they won't be flagged as spam.
    3. Plain html works best for me with links in blue so they stand out - I don't use any images.
    4. Your emails need to show your knowledgeable about the product you are promoting, this builds trust with the user and increases the chance that they will buy what you are promoting.

Hey gnk78 for #4 it needs to look like you wrote it. I'm sure you're on some internet marketers email lists so go over some that stood out to you and you came here looking for the download . Also sign up for email in the niche which you have your list to see what they're doing and maybe find new stuff to promote as well.
    the
Most clickbank and CPA products have email swipes and say which are best converting... for THEM. Your list may be different. Send out generic email swipes if they're good and test them. If you're familiar with the niche, you can read some email swipes and tie your own story or experience into it. Using your own content will be sure they haven't seen the same email TITLE and all 10X before.

Also don't promote a lot of stuff sending it to their squeeze page. I'm not worried about them stealing commissions but down the line they will be promoting the same things you are. You're building their list and your own competition. Send them to sales video or long form sales letter rather than their squeeze page when you can.

buzilla - Thanks for answering all my questions. I'll look into aweber.

Mike Hunt - Really nice tips, I'll go through my spam folder later. I agree it's really annoying to see several mails with the same titles, I guess I'll write my own content first and see how it goes. I'm not sure what's a squeeze page though, isn't it the same as the sales page? The one with the sales letter, videos and forms?

bobgoe - I did not use aweber or any other service. It's sort of a newsletter service for my site.

    1) Except aweber most of the popular mail sending service dont allow affiliate links. You can use wysija with wordpress and redirect using cloaker.
    2) Avoid directly adding the link. Use cloaker and if possible use landing page.
    3) Depending on your niche, you can use either one. I suggest plain text because some mail services don't parse html neat.
    4) Copywriting is a skill. Write and test. Sometimes personal voice works much better than business formal feeds.

Can you get away with shortening the affiliate URL for other services like mailchimp?

Some good points here. On #4 I literally just did some A/B testing and found that an informal, personal recommendation type email worked better than a salesy corp. type.

How to make txt/html creatives for sending?
I got the infrastructure setup, backend/frontend is pmta/interspire .... I am just having trouble finding networks with approved email creatives, or great clickbank products with premade creatives..

    2. yes! you can! i do it and almost all of my emails go into the inbox!
    3. plain old email
4.It should sound like you are a expert in your niche! first build relationship; give away some free stuff then promote some products!

    1. Aweber or GetResponse is fine, I have GR but have used Aweber, both are good
    2. Hyperlink your affiliate link. For example instead of saying click the link below http://www.clickbank.com/38484hjghjg848tnbbgj84
simply say CLICK HERE and then hyperlink "CLICK HERE with your affiliate link...it looks much less spammy
    3. I do both, which with GR is with a click of a button. This will increase your inbox delivery by up to 25%
    4. Casual, like you would write an email to a buddy. Gain there trust so keep the "sales" emails down to a minimum at first. In the first 10 emails/touches you want a max of 2 sales emails/....the other 8 should be good quality information or helpful links

    Best of luck,
    Ryan

Personally I use Aweber but you can also use GR and mailchimp - the latter is free up to 2,000 subs so it is ideal if you are just starting out and don't have the funds.

Is it possible to export the contact list, into interspire from aweber/gr/mailchimp for once you get a big list and want to do your own esp?

How do you get the creatives html/txt to send in email?
