Say I have a software product with a potential target market in the millions.

The product saves time, makes business life easier and more profitable.

I sell the product for $197 lifetime license.

Say I have a subscribers list of 100,000 that are within my target market so to speak.

Is it possible to achieve a click to sale conversion of 0.2% or am I being over optimistic?

I know allot depends on sales page, product etc, but lets assume that's all good.

I have read that email marketing can convert sales at as high as 4-6%

So I am thinking we should at least be able to achieve 0.2% sales. (2 in every thousand)

    Thought appreciated.

I would test the water; learn what works.

Split test - identify what converts better. You owe it to yourself to make sure you convert as much of that list of 100,000 as you possibly can.

If the 100,00 is scraped, I'll be surprised if you get one person to buy. If it's opt-in, you're in with a chance.

Don't go all guns blazing! Step by step, then target them with the offer.
If I were you, I'd start small.

    By that I mean;
1st, 2nd & third follow up emails after signup are all freebies. The 4th email will have something for $4.95 for example. The next email will have something for sale at $39.95 and so on. You'll identify those who have the cash and willingness to spend.. and then those who have only signed up because they saw 'free!' on the landing page.

I wish you the best of luck!
Report back when you get the chance.

With a targeted opt-in list, some prep work and a converting pitch, 0.2% is very achievable.

My standard CTR for list emails is around 10%, and sales page conversion rate for mid-end products (~$100) around 3% which would result in an overall conversion of 0.03%.

    Good luck!
