    Hey there everyone,

So here's a funny story about my ISP here in Egypt. They've recently censored BHW along with a number of other websites citing "user complains" and in another call "this site destroys our servers when visited :D (i swear they actually said that)" and a shitload of other excuses like "it has malware".

    1QwjRSVTu6JxocztXOuZPSmj2dKWDg1.jpg

I was so pissed at them, they even refused to let me talk to a supervisor, and when they finally LET ME, the guy was full of shit. Even more than the junior reps were. He went like "we have to protect ourselves and our users", I said "you can just WARN me and let me choose whether to continue to the site, not FORCE a block" then he went on saying "We're not like China where they actually censor sites and you cant even use a proxy to surf them. We just blocked the site on our network so feel free to access it via a proxy."

He also said that "we have partnerships in place with Google and all the major tech companies, we consulted them about this site and they said it's dangerous". Yeah, right, that's why Norton Safe Web, Google Safe Browsing, VirusTotal and a bunch of other sites say BHW is FREAKING CLEAN.

Not only that, but when I kept pushing he went saying "sir, we do whatever is in our power to protect ourselves and our clients, I think that's clear enough".

So I took his advice and now visit BHW via a proxy, couldn't have possibly figured it out without his generous help.

I'm gonna get the media all over this shit since there are already talks about "freedom of speech" in this country, they're interested in stuff like that these days.

If it was another country, I would have sued their asses to hell :D

ISPs give you headaches in your country as well?

    Because of the anti-islamic video?

Yeah TeData is yet to do that though Link claims that all ISPs do like them. I dunno what these people think we are. :D

Wow, and to think we sometimes think that the US gov is bad. Thank goodness for proxies.

We have weird censorship in America. Some web sites restrict services depending on what ISP we use. For example if you want to watch the World Cup match, you'll be able to watch it using a certain ISP and not another. Because some ISPs didn't pay the licensing fee.

Another weird and annoying thing we have here is downloading music and movies. I have friends where they've received warning letters from the ISP saying that they've been downloading pirated movies and music, and if they continue downloading they will be prosecuted.

That's pretty crazy. I would be pissed also. I could understand if it was at a library or work but to block BHW or any site for a private citizen is ridiculous.

Here in the US I'm not aware of any blocks on ISPs for residences. Businesses, libraries, government offices, etc block all kinds of sites all the time. Porn, downloads, "questionable" sites. This is especially true at schools. And what SuperDuran is true, people who download torrents gets letters from lawyers threatening to pay up $$$ or get sued. Porn companies have started doing this too. It's all over the news where I am. This lady who owns a nail salon got a letter saying she has to pay up $5,000 or else they will take her to court and everyone will know she downloaded porn. Isn't that fucking crazy?! Blackmail much?

IMers needs a bunch of proxies to even work white hat, so I can't really see this as an issue. Sure I'm also not very happy about the porn block of my ISP, but oh well...

You could do the same trick they did in Lybia, place a parabolic antenna in the neighborhood and connect directly to the satellite.

lol I'd be really interested in something like that if I just had a clue whether it even exists or how to do it :D

You happen to be a fellow Egyptian or you just picked up ISP names from our previous post? :D

It's not really about my inability to access BHW because that's not an issue. Proxies, VPNs, private DNSs...etc.. But the point is: Who the hell do they think they are to do that? It's not even a government thing cause the rest of the ISPs are fine. And after all that their supervisor tells me "I that's clear enough" rudely.

I want to have my revenge. :D If not through government complains, then I'd give them a media nightmare at least.
