Effect of GEO relevant backlinking?

Hey ya'll

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with geo targeted backlinking

Do geographically relevant (ie; ecom store in USA getting backlinks from sites also located in USA) perform significantly better in terms of rankings than none geo relevant links when trying to rank well in a certain country? If they do perform better, does anyone have any loose ideas on how much better they work, 2x 3x 4x?

Relevance and power. This is what you need from links. You can get weak relevant links and strong less relevant links or strong relevant links. Relevance also applies to the geographical case. (Enough to put effort into it)
