These days I am setting up my first online store. Unfortunately I have so many products (more than 700), that I won't be able to write product descriptions for all of them by myself. So the most time I am just going with the manufactures ones. Means features, specifications etc.

Question: Does this count as duplicate content?

If yes, would it be the best just to delete all the product description? Of course this would be negative for the customer and the conversation rate,

If the products are branded then its a different thing - because generally brands would have already optimized product descriptions/features/specifications etc. And generally big brands lean towards "NOT" modifying these, by their affiliates. Having a standard product related information help the customer..
However, what you can do is "Add value" to the existing data. So For ex: you may want to add more details like the blue tooth range of a audio device, compatibility, recommended settings etc that may not be very apparent to the customer, but adds lot of value to the end user.
If the products are white labelled/Private label products, then re-writing the complete product data would help. In this case, it would be very helpful if you could leverage the "structured data/RDF" . This will ensure that google will know the equivalent/similar product in your store when a customer searches for lets say "10 Watt Under Water Speaker" .
Of course the above will be relevant if you are looking for a long term and white hat solution
