Ebay Newbie

Hey guys... total ebay newbie here.

Is like to give selling a go...

I was thinking of putting aside £100 from this month's wages and practise buying and selling on ebay with it ...

Can you guys give me an idea of what actuslly sells on there though? What should I buy? New? Used? Where from etc...

I think a lot of folks are starting out backwards.

First you need a competitive product, then you sell it.

If you don't have a product, and you just want to buy/sell off Ebay, what would be your difference from 99 million other sellers? What's your advantage? How would you be able to buy cheap and sell higher?

I agree with bartosimpsonio you need to have something special to sell. Too many people selling run of the mill stuff. Also the bigger players can buy a lot cheaper than you and can sell cheaper.
Try and find something special then you can have a business out of it.

Idk if I'm necessarily trying to start a business yet... don't get me wrong, that is the dream, buy atm I'm just looking to make a lil side cash.

I'm curious, when you say you should have a product first...

What would you say about the people who scour garage sales, thrift shops etc... they don't necessarily have a product first... but they know what to buy....

Like I saw an youtube video of soneone who makes 10k a month selling second hand teddy bears... (granted you can't be sure how true this is, But it's not impossible either)

This would apply if it was 2004 instead of 2016. Now on eBay you are competing with Chinese sellers who can make a living on as little as $0.25 profit per sale.

Again, this would apply if it was 2004 instead of 2016. Garage sales, thrift shops, goodwill, etc. are now being visited by many many eBay sellers now. And people look them up on eBay to see what it's worth before they sell it. While this is still possible, it's gotten a lot tougher. Most of the people who do this sort of thing would make more $ if they went to work at McDonald's. So as a hobby it might be fun and you might make a few bucks doing it, but as a pure money making venture, it's not going to be a winner for most people.

This is the way to go, as in being dominant in a narrow niche, but I'll be that guy is a world class authority on old teddy bears. You can't half ass your way into easy money on eBay any more, imo.
