I just got extorted!!

Just got this message in myebay

I wanted to let you know that I have received the disc that I bought from you and I am very disappointed in the shipping charges! I was charged $4.95 for S&H and it only cost you .79 to send it, so that's $4.16 that I was over charged, more than 6 times what it really cost you to send it. I would like a refund before I leave feedback. I found this just a minute ago and thought you might be interested.
What is fee circumvention?
Answer
Fee circumvention is using systems or techniques to avoid paying eBay fees -- for example, listing an item with a low price but charging unreasonably high shipping costs.

Circumventing eBay fees is not permitted, and we may take action against members who violate our Circumventing Fees policy.

I hope to resolve this issue with out having to take further steps.

Thank you-

After paying $250 in fees last month and will be over $400 this month I dont see what fees I am circomventing. Now it was a .01 cd listing, But I have it figured that I get a little to cover my time, and all my costs covered.

If this person leaves neg for me, I will be looking for ways to take them down. I will be looking to get the account suspended if possible [you loose neg feedback on suspended accounts.

I reported the extortion and will see what they do about it.

maybe it was not extortion, and I took it the wrong way, and the kicker is, I issue refunds if you just ask. [I sell digital items, some of the info is basic and just what people want, and some of it is too basic and worthless to the buyer. I just issue a full refund if asked]

If ebay does nothing i dont think I will list anything anymore [too much time for little earnings anyway, just need this income while I am working on other stuff, It pays my internet bills]

just me ranting!!

Ebay has such a tight hold on their business that it almost takes an act of God to get anything removed from feedback...it completely sucks!

WELL that was quick action!!

there was no extortion to be found.

oh well, fuck em!!

I'm not 100% positive, but........Isn't it your right to charge shipping & handling. And if it your s & h fee is stated in the auction then the buyer has no right to complain. If it is not stated in the auction, then just take the bad feedback and give the buyer bad feedback in return.
I've seen sellers charge WAY more for shipping movies and cd's so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

People love to play the victim no matter what it is. I've been on both sides of the shipping and handling equation but...it is what it is. It's clearly laid out to all buyers how much you're charging, not how much it cost. Besides although the shipping costs were only $.79 how can he determine what your "handling" cost should be. Gas, time, packaging...what about that cost? I say screw him and take the hit.

You can no longer leave neg feedback for buyers.

Last night was the last of my auctions that have shipping charge, just because too many people are stupid.

And yes shipping and handling fees are right there, I hope they did not expect that it would cost $5 to ship a cd.

They expect you to be able to pay all the fees of selling on ebay, and the product, and all the time and materials to ship it [my packaging, labels, ink, cd's bills suck] If all that was free, I still have $1.50 minimum fees from ebay and paypal.

Oh well, I have a couple very good sellers, i will probably just list them, and forget the rest.

BTW, if they leave negative feedback you can sue them, force them to pay you thousands of dollars, and have it removed.

I hope you are not serious, easier just to start selling under a differnt ID, which all the changes to ebay are so buyers can find a good seller, all I need to do is start using one of my other Ids, and I am off and running.

Shipping and handling. You're OK. Fee circumvention is more like trying to sell a necklace that's worth 200 dollars at a 5 dollar BIN price and charging 195 dollar shipping so you pay the fee percentage on 5 bucks rather than 200.

lol

No, I am very serious. I would sue the fuck out of them and make them pay for being a dick, I know people with 5000 positive and 0 negative, they sue for EVERY SINGLE negative.

Exactly,

Handling is where you as a seller get to add in costs like staff, packaging, etc, it is a completely reasonable fee.

I would explain this in the nicest way possible to the buyer and say "Hey, there are other costs in running a shipping business that need to be paid for or nothing could ever be shipped".

Most Ebay buyers are clueless. I had auctions where I only charged shipping (no handling) and still get dinged for excessive handling charges.

My listing even showed what the shipping charges were (using USPS) and that matched what the actual cost was to ship.

As a seller, now you cant respond to a negative feedback, the entire process is not worth it anymore.

I responded with a screenshot of my ebay invoices, an explanaition, and was very civil, even told them to enjoy their free cd, and told them I look forward to their positive feedback. [I would be shocked if I saw an invoice for $400 from a guy selling cd's for .01 starting bid]

This was all after I gave a 100% refund.

they are capping shipping charges on cd's and other items. the range depending on category is 3-4 bucks so I am only slightly out of that range.

tell the stupid fuck that shipping cost includes shipping and handling and the cost for gas to the drive of the post office, plus the time wasted standing in line to mail is stupid cd.

tell him that it actually costs 9$ to mail the item, but you discounted it for him, but since he was being such a jack ass, you'd invoice him the rest of the shipping + handling costs

Its why you must sue. it is PROFITABLE to sue to get your negative feedback removed. You get thousands of dollars as well as perfect feedback. You can sue someone who left you bad feedback last year. I urge you to. Stop these fuckers.

Damn, You reading my mind?

I even referenced kunaki so they can see what the industry standard is.

1.75 + $5s&h

But would have liked to have said what tonlilah said

Exactly what I was going to add. I would find out if the user sells anything on ebay and then leave negative feedback in return. Multiple times if possible. Heck why were at it, lets start a negative feedback club for dumbass buyers

Or maybe start a buyer block subscription site. So you can add troublesome buyers to your block list
