I often order small items from ebay, I notice in auctions that start around $0.01 reserve and while I bid and am leading, it would later turn out the same person is bidding on the same auctions, I wonder why ebay has never tried to address this issue, they usually would up the selling price till an extent and then back off if they notice I stop bidding.

Ive never heard of sellers bidding themselves, i dont think thats even possible on ebay? I would assume there system blocks that. Ive heard of sellers having other accounts and using that to bid on their stuff but not on the same seller account.

Yes it's possible. The term is call shill bidding in order to bump the price up in an auction. The company or user just uses a friend or another account to outbid the current one in hopes of making more money.
