Well i was just about to take a trial run at SEO for my friend who already runs a site and this thought came across me:

If we used hardcore BH techniques on *competitors* sites so they get banned by google etc, doesn't that leave the market free for you?

I mean, they can't stop you running your SEO campaign for them :p and it takes quite a while before google will take you off there black list!

Just a thought, or wouldn't it work in practice?

Enough people here seem to get there sites banned, so why not put there 'expertise' to use ;)

Jammie, that's a good idea, but if you are like me, I do somewhat believe in Karma, and if you are intentionally getting competitors banned, it could also happen to you. I'm not sure exactly what categorized B_H but I haven't read any threads like this one yet ;) I would call that more of a ArmyHat kind of thing.

heh, thanks for the input. Just my little "out of the box" idea for the week. Try and think of something creative each week to keep me on the straight and narrow path to enlightenment =P.

I do, unfortunately, believe in karma thus i won't use this. I just choose untapped niches and exploit them (... try to), as opposed to using things like this to get the edge.

Thought it was a pretty nifty idea though :p

I agree with jzero about the Karma thing too. My luck, I'd try to linkbomb somebody and just end up making the gap bigger between me and them.

aye ... sods law!

Like with me and my trading. 2 years consistant profit, no huge losses paper trading, a few months with over 100% return and no losses at all.

First day of live trading. out 50%. gutted. Deserved it and learnt my lesson, but karma's always there somehow.

Tactics that boost your own site/ranking/revenue are great, tactics aimed at lowering someone else's aren't BH, they're evil and will always come back to haunt you.

You just have to think it through to the logical conclusion and ask yourself the proper question: you're eventually going to target a competitor who's knowledge of the web and coding skills make you look stuipid... do you really want to piss him off?

and they'll always know the 1 person who you need a favour from most aswell ...

"so you have a double opt-in, geographically targeted, high spending & converting list with 250,000 subscribers?"

"yep"

"want to promote my product?"

"nope".

"ah f**k..."

that'd be karma for ya! i guess my mind overstepped the mark when i thought of this - no doubt some shady people would use it though.

Guess you could also use it on your own site - make it hugely popular so everyone knows about it, get it banned from g00gl3 then on your website say its "elitist" and limited membership for valued people etc. so everyone wants in :p.

Just remember. One of your competitors could also be a Black Hatter and then turn-about really does become fair play

Why not invest the time you'd need to harm your competition to improve your own rankings instead?

To me that seems like a much better idea. ;)

Black Hat is like using steroids, do it for/to yourself and don't get caught. What you are suggesting is like sneaking up on your competitors while they sleep and injecting them with chloroform or muscle numbing stuff.

This is really out of the way. It is very unethical to do it, and even the blackhatters do not support this method as we saw from this topic. You should be shamed that even a blackhatter does not think about this and you want to do this. Other people do this stuff for a living and you don't need to ruin their hard works and efforts. I hope this topic gets deleted! If you work hard then you will get the rank you deserve. You cannot harm other people. This is really extreme.

The SERPS are WAR. Everything legal is fare game, for you or your competitors to do. Your ethics can determine how you procede. But I doubt any of you would be able to get another competitors site banned. You would more likely just increase their authority

thats exactly what I call stupid and what a lot of people think blackhat is..
"getting back at people" and/or "breaking the law to get by" or whatever.

with those strategies you downspiral yourself energetically to failure yourself.

cant believe how many people still underestimate Google sometimes as well

PS: More info on my profile page that leads to the site where i put my credo on being blackhat!

Dude!

I understand what you're saying, but that ain't BH, thats RH (rat hat) and even BH'ers need to have some sort of morals and values.

Sorry, but we have to draw the line somewhere, and that DEFINATELY is a "line drawing" technique.

But, that's just my opinion.

I think you can try out with your sites first, but be careful to apply to others, if some evil do something toward you, then you can kick his ass using your dirty weapons

F*ck the ethic! I hate one of my competitor. If you know something about "how to get someone banned from google" just share it. Just look to my sig. It tells what the Black Hat is.
ps: Where the hell is my sig?

ahh this thread is great.

Everyone thats ashamed of me ... i don't even have a website to promote, thus no competitors, i make a living on other things.

I was going to get a website and during the grind of picking every little thing and looking through every single word, i came up with this theory. Thats all it is. a theory.

I don't using and i'm not suggesting people do use it, but surely this would be a major error on g00gl3's side if it worked.

On the flip side, if you get banned for spamming BL's or w.e, you could just say some one else did it to get you banned. if they sayits bullshit, well you're banned so it obviously worked ;).

Why do people take everything so seriously? Its not like im going to go into g00gl3 HQ with guns and knives and hold the site hostage until i'm #1 for everything! unless ... lmao j/k.

No, thats a stupid idea.

It also smacks of desperation. There is so much opportunity out there.

If you got to resort to those sorts of tactics, you must be blindfolded.
