This is my first post on this site after several month's of membership - This site has been very useful and I the least I can do is post some encouragement to all those starting out, I am not yet at the top but I am gradually making progress. I am going to make this as short as possible, and for all the English professors out there, pardon my grammar and vocabulary if I make mistakes.

A few years ago I was stuck in school, confused about life and the direction I wanted to grow in, I knew school wasn't for me but I couldn't just drop out of school either, especially when my parents were expecting their son to be writing the MCAT. Even though I loved science ,my heart was always into business , I actually started a website selling replica jordans and other sneakers (of course the website didn't call them replica's lol). At that time all I knew about the internet was how to visit websites, I expected customers to magically appear after I placed my website up. To say the least, after months of laboring, I had a grand total of 1 sale. :) . It was at this point that I started noticing that a lot of companies called "seo's" had been sending me emails, I went with the best one I could find, this dude gave me a call about my website, when I picked up the phone there was a smooth sounding soft toned man on the end of the line, you know the kind of sales man that can borrow your shoes and sell them back to you. Nonetheless after a couple of 10 min chats , he had managed to reassure me that he had my best interest in mind and placed me on the minimum plan for $1000/month, didn't include link building (he taught me how to build my own links by submitting to directories) . And this is how my journey begun :)

After the first month I refused to pay any more money, I had been doing my own research concerning this mystery 'seo' thing and it led me to a couple of places, one of them being this forum. And boy was I pleased, I had already familiarized myself with outsourcing,i begun to read about the creative methods being used to generate sales and some of the software to ease up the seo process. I was finally making some headway, I begun seeing some constant traffic to my site and all was going well until.... with my love for entrepreneurship I had effectively ignored my school work and allowed it to pile up, all I knew for some of my classes was the material thought in the first week, and exams was coming around. As the whole thing dawned on me, i was thrown into a crazy spiral, self loathe and some depression. ( I am a Christian so I guess daily scripture readings and prayer kept me from going over the edge) I really really really hate failing, so the more I saw my marks the more depressed I became. With a few days left for the exams, I loaded my brain with the information needed for the four classes, I managed to get some C's and C+ 's, and then dropped out of all my second semester classes without my parents knowledge.

I sat in my room most days doing nothing, I wanted to drop out but didn't know how to tell my parents, nonetheless my websites were unattended to, most expired, I decided to take a leave from life and travel. I left the country for 5 months and came back with no money, no job and no school... I managed to find a part time job with a cable company, and while working there I frequently visited bhw to read the forums. I read the success stories of most people and one point always came clear, PICK A METHOD AND STICK WITH IT.
It's a simple point but it is actually a lot harder than it seems, even in the middle of a method when you read about how someone else is having success its very easy to lose focus. The only way I did it was to pick my method and then leave the forum for a few weeks at a time while I worked away.

Its hard not to talk too much but I guess most people will be reading this to find out the method I am using so here goes... I read a post on how I make "$15000/month providing seo service" it was either 5000 or 15000 i dont quite remember and I got a lot of inspiration from his story. At that point I had a lot of knowledge about seo and some on webdesign, but the scene had changed so much, (it was right around the time the panda update was making a name for itself) not too long ago, I decided to start an SEO firm :) I decided to make mine a lot more useful than the service of the sales man who duped me.. to say the least I don't talking to potential clients so I never went to small business meetings and it was hard to find new clients. During that period one client I was working with needed his website to be redesigned, I did the job for him and he was so pleased with the work that he referred me to a friend of his. I thought to myself there might be something in this, I came on bhw and like the cosmos knew exactly what to present me, I came across a very old method which involved offering webdesign services for free while charging for hosting.

This is the method I am using now and it is has started to generate some income... to keep it as simple as possible. You don't need to know any programming, you don't have to be a web designer, all you need is a good head on top of your body and a bit of persistence. The key to the method is outsourcing, you can easily find a good site for cheap workers, if you don't know any pm me for some. The work goes a lot faster when the workers are customizing themes. There are a lot of wordpress themes and child themes around for that.

    1) Sign up for a hosting re-seller account, Its about 30/month - you can find some good ones with end user support so you don't have to take care of the support tickets yourself , i use one called theprimehost (i am not affiliated with them in anyway, you can choose which ever company you want)
    2) Set up your packages, $25/month hosting for a 5 page website, $30/month hosting for a 10 page and so on, you get the point - when you create your package throw in all the perks, you know the ones that most webdesign firms use "works on all web browsers" " get your own email address " you(at)yourdomain(dot)com", "free CMS included (you will be using wordpress)" ... etc
    3) Market your service for free Custom webdesign, this is the hard part, finding the right place to market, be creative with this(there are sales letter templates you can look at and modify) . Starting out, I paid for a featured listing on kijiji and received about 5 replies a week, only 1 would go ahead and purchase the hosting plan, but the return on investment is not bad at all considering that the least plan is for 25/month
    4) Once you start getting customers, hire a freelancer and email them the exact directions to build the website, its good to find contractors that can read and comprehend well (less work for you)
    5) Automate the system. Hire a freelancer to read and reply to your emails, also to set up appointments, "some people won't pay for hosting unless they hear a voice"
    5) understand that you are running a business, place a link to your website on the bottom of the websites you create, offer 'real' design services for real money on your website, charging the outrageous prices some of these webdesign companies charge (ok maybe charge half for it, but you get the point $450 for logo design, $300 for professional business card design, etc... all these can be outsourced) , tell the customers you get that this is only a limited time offer and as part of your service they should tell their business friends who need websites about it, in no time you will be building websites for $1000 , (well in some time, it takes patience and persistence)

Nothing comes easy in this life but just work hard and you will get there.... by God's grace :)

I have now been approached by one of these big coupon websites , one similar to groupon to provide my service , we are still going through the paperwork so by God's grace we will see where this leads... :)

I am also creating an affiliate program for the free websites services, so if you don't want to go through the whole process of dealing with clients and finding the right freelancers, or if you are tired of providing customers for these webhost companies and not getting your commissions on time, or not getting any commissions at all , pm me and lets talk... I am thinking about giving out $75 -$100 for each paying customer provided, you will be giving away a free "premium" website with a $25/month hosting fee .... :)

in the last few months I've spent about 16 hours a day behind my laptop, and I've come to realize a few things,
    1)never give up
    2)stay focused
3)read about others and their success
    4) mix and match, stay creative, never follow someones method to the tee
5)Don't get complacent , always try to build and grow
Other than reading posts on here, i usually visit a website called TED... to see the innovation and determination of others who are now on top is always a nice refresher.

Thanks. This really helped me out. I was thinking of going into the reseller hosting business. This helped me confirm it. Great inspiration.

It may take time to confront clients to convince them to buy the package but still a good business model. There is also the power of up-sells like social accounts fb/yt/t and SEO and all related services so the $25/mo can go up to $500/mo down the road. Another plus is getting clients referred by existing clients (Saves marketing time) and this gives you one more reason to server current clients so well.

Very simple idea, and pretty easy to implement!

One other way to offer hosting to your clients, the ones who get free sites, is to have them sign up to Bluehost through your affiliate link. It's a 1 shot deal where you get $100. Obviously after the 12 months is up, you'll lose the renewal unless you keep in touch with all the clients.

In the end though, your reseller hosting is a great idea. If you get enough clients, even cloud hosting would be a good idea.

Was just gonna say it... Why not supply them hosting by yourself? You keep all the earnings and if you decide to sell it, you sell it for big...

Yea once you collect a few leads interested in the free website some of them will definitely convert, and like you stated, the best part of this is the up sell... you have to make sure you do a good job in providing them professional service, once they have you down in their books as "the web guy," everything you suggest will be from social media pages to seo will be received with an open mind..

Thanks for the awesome post! Thankis given:)

Can you please expand on this a bit? I don't understand how you do this...

Like what category did you put your ad in? Because like in the Graphics and Web Design, all those are job offerings and not people actually promoting their web design service. Did you put your ad in the Resumes?

    Thanks:)

I actually posted in services, but like I mentioned above I paid for a featured listing which shows up on the front page so the category didn't really matter... just make a simple ad with white back ground and red letters saying "Free Website" - if you get creative with the places you place your offer, you can get a lot of leads
