I have done some research after the August update and it seems ranking on Google is now easier than ever. It just needs some skills and money to be invested. Results are guaranteed tho.

    Here's my guide:

    1. Look for domains in the pre-release or auctions on sites like godaddy, namejet etc.
    2. Don't go for expired domains. These have no value as per my research.
    3. Look for domains which have backlinks from sites like wikipedia, huffingtonpost, NYTimes etc.
    4. Relevancy does not matter. You can buy a church domain for a weight loss product review site.
    5. Bid on such domains and try to win them.
    6. Create a new website with your niche and see it rank high within a months time.
    7. Make crazy money and run away before Google fixes this.

It works 100%. Just make sure that the domain is not dropped and has good backlinks.

A lot of expired domain listing services will go out of business if what OP says turns out to be the case

And people will buy auctioned domains for hefty prices.

I've had plenty of 12+ month dropped domains regain their former ranking without any link-building.

Maybe I'm just on borrowed time and all these domains will tank with some future Google update (which will send lots of companies into bankruptcy), but so far I've never seen a dropped domain treated the same as a fresh domain.

You give us receipt for something people have been doing since the beginning of SEO? Great job mate.
About the expired domains - same old bullcrap we have been listen for years. Let me show you freshly registered expired domain with its old website restored:

Is OP referring to the August 2018 update, or the August 2008 update?

That's based on your experience which is a good thing, but expired domains/dropped ones work too. May be results vary from niche to niche too.

    It's not that simple.
There's so many parameters to consider.
One thing is for sure, if a domain changes ownership, Google knows.

Ones who are saying that expired domains work for rankings.... are you guys talking about rankings the site earlier had? I am talking about high competitive keywords ranking without doing anything. These keywords have nothing to do with the niche, keyword or content on the old domain.

    For eg.

An expired domain like somecityschool.org with backlinks from top sites can rank back for some city school, best school in city etc. but have you got top rankings for something like "best vacuum cleaners" using the same domain?

I am saying that in the case of domains which are not dropped, it is easy to rank for anything.

Of course, there are other factors like competition which might bring in different results.

And yes, I am sharing this based on my observations and experience.

Just want to know if an expired domain is always indexed especially if they expired like months, years and age ago or shall I wait for them to show some activity and for the record they are just parked.

Are these domains actually equal? Most likely you're just getting poor-quality dropped domains, auction domains tend to be safer if you go in blind.

If you check the backlink profiles, your stronger auction-sourced domains will almost certainly have a few authoritative referring domains that are absent from your formerly-dropped domain backlink profiles. These are what give you the ranking power, not an arbitrary auction/drop flag by Google to reset the backlinks.

No two domains can be equal or it can be difficult to determine. Something with a high DR or DA might not be that good in googles eyes as compared to a domain with lower dr or da.

I am also looking at websites ranking for difficult keywords. Websites that are ranking have domains which are very old and never dropped. I havent come across a website that ranks and is made from an expired domain. Again, I am talking about irrelevant niche and keywords as compared to the original domain.

I had an expired domain which I tried to rank. It did not work untill I 301ed a non dropped old domain to it.

I've never seen an auctioned domain do that either, and single-owner authority domains usually have a hard time changing niches.

But all other factors being equal (approx. same number of backlinks, links from the same authority sites, etc), I have had nearly identical results between auctioned domains, fresh (<3 months) dropped domains, and old (3+ year) dropped domains.

In SEO, you want to be prepared for future updates, not past updates.
Wishful thinking works, until it does not work.
(August update, did it happen? nah)
