I am debating on trying to rank my main site for certain keywords, or purchasing new domains with the keywords in the domain

In your experience is it significantly easier to rank a new domain with a keyword in the domain or to rank a large sites page for a specific keyword?

If you want to do niche sites, its vital to have the keyword in the domain name for extra SEO benefits. If you are making a general site on a bunch of keywords, maybe put the main keyword you want to rank for in the domain and then in the posts you make you can have your sub keywords.

Hope that helps :)

It depends. How much authority does your existing site have? How old is the domain? What's the PR of the site? Are they in the same niche?

having the keyword in your domain gives u a big boosts in seo from my understanding. i always buy domains with my keyword in domain

I totally agreed that keyword-rich domains can help rank your site well, along with a SEO-friendly website design and proper on and off-page optimization. Make sure that you don't do keyword stuffing because it might affect your rankings on Google. Most affiliates right now are buying keyword-rich domains for their preferred keyword to rank.

of course keyphrase into domain .com is best .. thing is if you are going to create this site big as brand would you be able to brand some long domain name ... if its short term project or its big enough niche ... then use keyphrase in domain and make the sexiest logo so people remember you :D

To a certain degree you can rank an exact match domain better then something else. Now if you have a truly authority domain just do the on-site seo correctly. Title, Tags, Kws, Description, good keyword density. Then have good anchor texts.
