Dr. Martin Luther King was one of the most, if not the most, influential activist of our generation. His speeches, his campaigns against hate and segregation, and his vast knowledge & overall positivity towards the negative opposition he faced made him one of the greatest men to who have lived. My post may seem a little sensationalized, however, without his influence things would be very different today. So on behalf of me, my family, and friends I would like to say: Thank You Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Day - Monday January 19th 2015

I thought it was against the rules to push a political agenda on BHW?

It's not really a political agenda, I don't think. It's a national holiday here in America... it's not much different than wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving or Independence day.

It is an observed holiday. There is no political agenda, it was about equality.

Its more of a pseudo-national holiday, I know no one that actually partakes in the celebrations of it. If the cool stuff he did was actually promoted it may be a better holiday. The coolest thing about him was the groupies he was hooking up with.

Are you serious? Most African Americans that I know celebrate it. Most colleges and universities celebrate it. The coolest thing about him was the groupies? Are you 14 or just that naive? If you do not understand the impact he had and how noble he was doing so, then do not even respond. This is about appreciation, not lack of knowledge. Thanks.

So I am not allowed to appreciate him in a neutral way by admiring the cool things he did, his marketing ability and his speech quality as well as his push for equality? Legally speaking his impact was not as large as the modern era portrays as he didn't play a role in any of the civil rights laws that brought upon equality in America.

At what point did I say that? Listen, this is the end of our conversation. This thread is about appreciating a great man and his accomplishments. If you want to comment on that, you are more than welcome.

His speeches were great achievements, his "I have a Dream" speech is the #1 speech in America during the 20th century and he helped bring about harmony between different groups of people, but he wasn't involved in the legal aspects.

I love Key & Peeles comedy style. They took the idea of Chappelles show and made it modern. Still miss that though.
