for accounts i dont care about i do this:

It is, but it's also easier for youtube to spot and ban your accounts!

Can't you just use the same e-mail to sign up with each e-mail account?

That is almost worse than sending youtube a mail saying:
"PLEAZE BAN ME PLOX!!!11"

So if I just want ratings for my videos I can just type in any old crap for the e-mail?

I tried using this but when i click on my confirmation link I get "your confirmation link has expired". Crap
You have first to login with the account, and then click on the confirmation link. Try it, and you will see
