I was going to buy something from a site that used E-Junkie and to my surprise a coupon code that was meant to give 50% off (of something else) changed the price to a total of 0.00. It allowed me to continue through the shopping cart and it thanked me for the free purchase. I received a download link and a confirmation email thanking me for the purchase.

I went on further to contact the seller and find out what's going on and let him know that they are losing sales and I was told that to use the product legally I'd still have to pay via PayPal and of course I would only be required to pay half the price.

Now I'm not debating on whether to pay or not to pay I'm just wondering if I am really obligated to do so? After all, E-Junkie fucked up, they've got them to blame and complain to? The coupon of course no longer works, in a way I am still getting 50% off but it's not like I would be getting a license for this product anyway... So what do you guys think?

I think it was fair from you, that you let him know about the bug. I don't think you are obligated to pay 50%

Keep it. They fucked up and you were honest and informed them about it. I don't think you are obligated to pay anything - they should be thanking you.

If I was the seller I wouldn't want you to pay me because you were kind enough to let me know about the error. You just saved the guy from losing revenue from others in all probability.

I would be thanking you and telling you to enjoy the product.

Yeah, that's BS, they should be a little more gracious. You could have just come here and posted the code for everyone to use instead of being a good samaritan. I guess good deeds never go unpunished.
