Duplicate Content Question

Hey Black Hatters.

So here is a question; say you have Website X. It has a design template, with a menu at the top of the page and a box for text. Say you were to create a copy of this template including the menu and put it onto a new website, Website Y but change the textual content. Both websites are separate including unique domains; but Website Y looks and feels like Website X but with different textual content.

Is this going to get penalised for duplicate content? This is with Website X's permission btw.

Well, websites can have the same template. As long as your content goes over 60% uniqueness (I think that was the number), you should be fine.

That is what I thought. I can't imagine why they couldn't have the same template. Just didn't know if Google Bots care about the template or not! The text on the page will be unique.

The website templates doesn't matter (look how many use wordpress default theme).

If this would be the case most web 2.0 properties would be penalized, but actually Google quite likes them :d

does anyone know any free software to make sure your content isnt duplicate? thanks
