    Hey guys,

I have heard this discussed many times before some say yes, some say no....rather than opinions lets do a poll based upon your personal experience....

    Question:
Does duplicate content negatively affect domains rankings on G?

Also any stories or examples in your personal experience that expounds on your answer would be awesome!

This happened to me. I had a blog with duplicate contents. Google banned my site and they 're not indexed anymore. I tried several times to change keywords and content. But nothing happened.SO I REMOVED MY BLOG.

    So don't use duplicate contents

I have a site with 500+ medical articles, and i though to add some dublicate from the web to get 1000 and i got f*ucked. Google sandboxed my site. I removed everything and it come back right way. Dublicate is good noly if you are not looking for search engine traffic.

i started a blog back in 2007 regarding parenting. It reached PR within 5 months and PR to 3 . Then god knows what happened it suddenly started declining. I had some 1000 UV at that time. now also I get some 50UV but my blog is deindexed. all visitors are from google image search.
My blog was basically all from ezinearticles and few self written one.
I feel now it's due to duplicate content.

    Code:
    http://allaboutparenting.blogspot.com

There are many other factors that can be related to blogs being deindexed. Some say duplicate content as it is the easiest explanation to give. The best bet is for you to experiment with it. The smarter thing to do is to find a way to make sure the content you are going to use rewritten a little automatically and mixed with various related content. If you know php or javascript you can do some encoding to the source which inturn makes the spiders see it as a unique content..:)

I built a site round duplicate content 6 months ago, but added about 3 original content paragraphs on each page thinking that would solve any problems. Did some backlinking, etc, all whitehat stuff. The index page was on page 9 of google and a few of the sub pages were on around page 18 for their respective keywords the others weren't anywhere.

Recently rewrote the index page, making it unique and it is now on page 3 after not moving from page 9 for months. I think dupe content does get penalised, although some people seem to get away with it.

I think it's a myth, but I've had different results.

As a test I used duplicate content on some domains; not only on different domains but in the same domain also. Some domains suffered on their rankings and some others didn't suffer at all. But, all the domains used for this test are indexed at some level.

Based on my personal experience I'd say it's a myth, all your content will end up to be indexed no matter if it's duplicate or unique content, especially with blogs, but there are some factors that sometimes you'll not rank high so in this case all you need is a solid backlinks strategy. Of course unique content is always the best if you can afford it, but it's not a necessary if you know how to play it good with duplicate content.. .

I still have autoblogs that are outranking the original sources for years! and I even have PR5-6 autoblogs, getting high links from others and linking to others.

Well, I think it also depends on how you're using it. Many of the examples above pertain to content placed on a site. But what about content used to promote the site? In my experience, dupe content used to promote sites does work, but you have to be careful what content you use IMHO.

Duplicate content, while it may hurt your SERPs for the page if it is a photocopy. Will not hurt your site as a whole as long as it doesn't look spammy. Don't add 10,000 pages a day, limit yourself to maybe 100 and see how it works.

    Thats my opinion at least.

    i think its a myth.
Googling general keyword, like acne cure article, vitamin c, etc, there is a lot of duplicate content on the first page.
And i think google will find a hard way to shot who is plagiator.

the whole duplicate content thing is a fucking myth. obviously if you want to take top top positions you're going to want some good quality written content, but for long tail stuff and filler content that will still bring traffic, duplicate content is just fine. I've had blogs running on purely unaltered sponsor rss feeds, with a little surrounding text on the wordpress themes, hit page one for semi competitive search terms before. don't believe all the hype. it's not nearly as serious as people make it out to be. a lot of it depends on how many times that content has been duplicated and used too.

From my experience, it's a myth. Obviously original content is important, but the with more links will always win.

If the duplicate article has more links than the source then the duplicate will rank higher. Your backlinks decides if you will be the duplicate or the source.

You can do will with duplicate content on condition that:-

1- You have more backlinks than your source.
2- You don't get into copyright issues.

Keep within these and you will be fine.

I believe it's a myth but if it was, posting dupilcate content is a great way of keeping Google happy when your running PPC campaigns - especially if you're reverse engineering a site that you know is making money.
