Dumb Proxy Question

Okay so this might be done, so feel free to mock and deride me, but on the chance that it's a brilliant idea I am going to ask.

My new online forum gets a certain amount of spam. The forum software lets me look at the details of the spammers, their logon names, IP Addresses, etc...

So I start thinking, "Those IP Addresses are probably proxies." and then I think "Maybe those proxies are free proxies.", and THEN I think "Well, maybe I could USE those free proxies myself.

Dumb idea, or brilliant?

probably........ u can trace the ip's for more proxies :beach2:

Not brillant but you can look up the IP on Google and that usually leads to lists of where that spammer got his proxies from.

That's commonly done when hunting for Scrapebox proxies.

Will forum software provide this?

My experience with proxies is limited, but I'm not THAT dumb. I played with Charon for a while. I also learned that I could enter a proxy into the browser manually (with port number) and sometimes it would work.

Wonder if there isn't a way to monetize this; using a forum "honeypot" to attract spammers in order to get fresh proxies (or leads to them).

Using those proxies (because they're already used for spamming) is a dumb idea IMHO
