So lets say for my clients each month I build them some manual web 2.0s that are branded for them. So a XYZ plumbing company get some plumbing web 2.0s with their logo and contact info and link to their website. Now, if I wanted to double my efforts on my own back linking for my SEO company, would it be harmful to drop my companies link and by line it with "Marketing by my company" along side of their branded web 2.0s or on the web 2.0 footers. Same concept for guest blogging posts etc etc, thoughts?

Ethically you are suppose to build links for your clients, you can run your own campaigns for your domain. It will look cheap and unnatural.

OP, I hope you realize what you've just done.

And on a technical point: No, that idea is terrible as it creates an elephant sized footprint.

I haven't done anything. The only time when I combine links is during certain press releases at the moment.

as long as you are not on the same niche, then maybe that would be fine. both of you are not competitors so win win for you both.

Bad idea unless ==> there is absolutely no blackhat involved. but since by definition link building is blackhat (well, IMO.. i don't want to start this debate), then no, I would personally advise against it.

This is something that can be done for example in web design.. "designed by XYZ and Co. Web Design" with backlink to site.
