I was in #8 position for a 10k global search keyword and I changed my onpage seo about 10 times in the span of 2-3 days to test what would work best for penguins optimization algo. I would add or remove some keywords and then submit the site to be crawled and see the fluctuations. Once I found out the onpage copy that worked best for me I changed it to that but instead of my site gaining in rankings, it fell to page 4. I then changed my copy a few days later and added some LSI keywords I wanted to rank for and the site dropped to page 6. I changed it again a few days later and it dropped to page 9. Now it's floating between pages 10 and 20.. Im worried that me changing my onpage too many times in a short span has triggered something in google. Has anyone else had this happen to them & is there any way to recover my page 1 rankings?

Also, i just changed my onpage a few hours ago by removing 2 generic keywords and adding 2 LSI keywords I wanted to rank for and right now it's dropped to position 300..

Did you try changing back to your original #8 ranking content?

This is what I would do. It's why its so important to keep a change log in SEO.

It doesn't really matter how often you made a change single Google won't know until they spider the site.

But yes of course changing your onsite can change your ranking. It might just be you're asking it to judge a moving target and once it's worked things out you'll get your ranking back. Or you've done something it doesn't like with one of the changes.

I guess you already got to know this but i have to say when you hit first page dont change your onpage just add more links..Its simple as that...What i would do is return it to #8 setting and leave it for awhile as you cant expect to return in a day..its also possible that you got hit with penguin in a meantime so i guess you cant know for sure ..Good luck !!!

Just wait. It sounds like you've done this in the space of a week? Give it another week or so and stop dicking about with it.

After changing something from you onpage you have to wait for a couple of weeks after new indexing. You have to see the SERP result. If it is improving move on next step. If not go back to original.
If you changing frequently before settle down you can't do get better ranking.
