How are these sites able to fetch domains instantly that expire? Via their own custom API?

How to get such APIs?

I believe that will be quite difficult to find out the ways and methods they are using.
Are you planning to open related services or what is your goal at the movement?

Lol no haha. Just curious coz see there is namejet, dropcatch, snapnames and other new competitors that appeared recently but how are they able to catch those in the fraction of a second?

Its like a war of micro seconds to see who's the fastest in acquiring.

They are using bots and monitor ("watch") such potential domains and pick them.
That is very profitable business and therefore they have to invest a lot.

There are no APIs for registering domains lol

Stop being mentally locked on using open source type stuff and instead go for the blackhat scripting approach.

Although I'm pretty sure it costs a shit ton of money to register as a domain registrar, like $10k per domain extension.

They build an expensive system to acquire it but still 100% not guarantee that they can catch it every names

I bet it is some sort of automated bot that crawl the web (certain websites) and detect the expired ones

This is actually a really interesting topic where a lot of money and secrets is involved.
These services use APIs to lookup the domains and catch them just as they expire.

This is extremely expensive though as they're buying up different registrars in order to increase their chances to "catch" the expired domains.
The reason for this being that each registrar gets a limited amount of requests before it's rate limited.

There are also some other tricks behind this as the time of the day that the domain expires, but the main factor is how many ICANN accredited registrars that you own.
The more you have, the higher your chances as you'll be able to do more look ups.

TLDR
If you want to catch expired domains, then be prepared to pay millions in fees to ICANN, not to mention the relatively small fees that you'll have to pay for the LLCs that the registrars will be assigned to.
