    Hey Everybody,

So a client recently switched to our company and saw their traffic nearly get cut in half and bounce rate double but the strange thing is they saw an increase in conversions. They worked previously with another agency before us but I dont know what cause their traffic to get cut in half and still increase in conversions. The transition from site is done correctly (301's, sitemaps, etc) and looking through their past data, everything is fine. The data doesn't seem to show bot traffic (avg time is good, not a high bounce rate, networks don't seem sketchy). Does anyone have any ideas on why their traffic could have been halved but actually converting better? All the content that was previously on the site was imported and no new content was created and no linkbuilding done since transition.

Are you saying that you rebuilt the website and this is the result?

If you did rebuild the site (or tighten the onpage), your onpage SEO might have shifted the keyword targeting into the long tails. Long tail traffic will be lower in volume but much better targeted (more likely to convert).

This is what it sounds like to me.

When we rebuilt the site, we moved all the on-page content directly over. We never created new content for them which is why this is so confusing. I investigated this more and it seems that there was an error with their Google Analytics before we imported them. They had their naked domain as a referrer for some reason causing their tracking code to read each visit twice resulting in a large inflation in their traffic.

Still doesn't explain the increase in conversions.
