While doing SEO on your website is an important way to getting thousands of visitors to your site per month, doing it too quickly and too much in the beginning without some domain authority can land you in the penalty zone. And doing things the white hat way is great for lasting results, but you need visitors in the beginning to keep you going before your SEO shows signs of being alive.

Before you do anything, read phpbuilt's amazing On-Page SEO guide:

    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...diot-proof-guide-authority-site-building.html

    Yahoo Answers:

While you're doing whatever link building, I recommend that you get a Yahoo Answers account and start posting some answers and getting your account to Level 2. You can buy one but it's easy to do, just do it on your phone when you're bussing somewhere or sitting in a waiting room before your appointment. Once you have a Level 2 account, start answering questions in your niche and showing them a link to your website as well as to an authority site like Wikipedia.

You won't get best answer every time, but when you do, you've hit the jackpot. Keep answering questions without backlinking and do it for random niches now to make your account appear natural. Now it's time to blast this Yahoo Answers page. As you know, Yahoo has a lot of domain authority so you don't need to worry about any penalties, just don't send crap links like guestbooks, image links, and the such with GSA. If you don't have GSA, there are people on BHW that can run a 10,000 link campaign for you here for $5. If you have a bigger budget, you can build Web 2.0's to the Yahoo Answers link and blast those if you want to be safer.

When people are looking up some sort of question or problem, they like to hear user reviews. After all, whenever we buy something from Amazon, we love to read the reviews. In the same way, people trust Yahoo Answers. If your competition for the keyword is weak, you should make it onto the first page no problem, providing that your post itself is also somewhat optimized for said keyword.

    Reddit:

Sign up on Reddit, it's quick and easy, and it has an enormous community. Find an active subreddit that is appropriate for your niche. Build a comment history and become somewhat respected on said subreddit. No excuses once again, get a Reddit app for your phone like Reddit is Fun and start commenting in your spare time. Once you have some trust to your name, post tutorials, words of advice, etc. and offer up your link as well as a link to Wikipedia or Youtube to not set off any flags.

Reddit is a particular audience though and they won't respect a crappy site so make sure you've got an authority theme, engaging content and a good host that loads pages quickly.

    Forums:

Screw XRumer, you should be tackling forums and getting in direct contact with people looking to buy. If they are on the forum, asking for opinions, THEY ARE LOOKING TO BUY! You can set up Google Alerts or you can just find active forums, get some quality posts, and then start hyperlinking to your blog. Take long breaks so people forget about you and your link. Then come back posting some generic words of encouragement or advice, and then after a couple of posts drop your link again.

These are manual methods of getting some income while you're working on your SEO, if you're too lazy to do them, that's up to you but there's money waiting out there to be spent on someone else's affiliate site.

You can't optimize your site too quickly because SEO begins the moment you publish your first piece of content, and SEO is a necessary aspect of website promotion. You can't ignore that aspect.
