So, I end up getting an email from Dreamstime of copyright infringement for a picture. The thing is however, I actually did purchased the picture. I am 100% confident because I am trying to make the website 100% legit but just not sure where I purchase it from, so what I did was end up looking at all the history of stock photo websites where I subscribe.

True enough, I end up purchasing it from a different agency so I end up replying them that it was on a different agency.

Dreamstime wants me to screenshot the receipt of the other agency, so I gladly send it to them and told them that what they're doing almost seems like a scam because anyone who forgot where they purchase it from can just probably panic and pay for the penalty.

Pretty pissed for what they did, so are they just sending emails to random people and accusing them of infringement? They should mind their own business if we got it from a different agency and have better checks

Are they still after you even though you sent them the screenshot of the receipt? What was their response after you sent them what they needed?

Don't reply to such emails even if you have the original receipt of the purchase. Who knows what they're fishing for using this method apart from scamming people for money. I wouldn't share a receipt with just anyone, who knows what other info they might misuse from it.

I doubt they are fishing, because I believe it is a part of their job to find the copies of their images spread over the internet and ask them to either put down or pay the penalty.

That's why I asked the OP what did they do after he send them the receipt of purchase. Let's wait for his answer.

Ok, after I send them the receipt. They did not bother to reply to confirm that everything's good.

I thought everything is now well.

But then just this evening, I freaking received another email from them, with their original text that I had made an infringement.

Its as if we did not have any conversation.

I replied that they're freaking harassing me, and if they want to bring this to court then so be it as I have 100% proof that I purchased that particular picture from a different agency.

This is like all those youtube auto copyright strikes... ugh.
even lofi girl was hit lol. o_O

all these are running on auto pilot.

After messaging them that I am willing to bring this to court.

they just replied that the case is now closed. its now all good.

Still pissed for the inconvenience they caused though.

Hi I've joined this forum to comment on this, I have received an email basically saying our system has failed to find you have a license for the photo and asking for proof, and simply just removing the image isn't enough, so indirectly threatening me.

I put the image in question on one of my articles years ago so I have no recallation of where I got it from at all and I can't find any evidence in my inboxes etc or ever using their website.

Has anyone ever found out if this is legitimate or some kind of scam?

I've noticed in the email the image link has utm param like its some kind of marketing campaign

Does anyone know of some way of finding where else this image may have come from in terms of image stock wise etc to so I can find out if I sourced it from somewhere else?

DreamsTime is a stock photo website where photographers can sell their images to users for a fee. However, there have been reports of a copyright infringement scam on this platform.
