Just thought i'd add in this in...

I bought a brand new laptop last june, and to be honest ive had nothing but problems with it from the start, both software and hardware related. Anyway i bought it at my local tesco, and decided to take them up on the 1 year exchange or refund warranty.

However upon phoning them, they put me straight through to the manufacturer (acer) who told me they would pick it up and should any of the many problems i had be software related, i would inncur a charge of £80!!

Luckily, im studying business management at college and last year we did business contracts and consumer law. The sale of goods act dictates should the product not confirm to the sale of goods act, whereby the product is of satisfactory quality, it is the seller (tesco) who are responsible, and not the manufacturer.

I then marched straight into tesco last night, and after demanding to see the manager, came home with a brand spank laptop.

Knowing your rights as a consumer is one thing, applying them is another, don't let the big guns pawn you off with their company policy. They may have a company policy which seems to stray away from the sale of goods act, but they are not exempt from it.

Just thought id share that in case anyone else has any similar problems.

Now to install all my software again lol
