Ok, so I have been back to reading the forums again and I keep hearing people saying that they are about to give up on SEO. Let me tell you what happened to me.

I had 9 sites ranking on the first page of G00gle and Bing. I was making pretty serious money until one day I heard all the cries about the Panda and then the Penguin. So I quickly, and stupidly, reacted to all the calls to take down my links that were in BMR and my other little private networks. So I ran around like a chicken without a head and took down my links for my top sites and then started to manually start building what I though would be better quality links from .edu and other similar sites. So this was for 6 of my sites. Everyone of the damn 6 sites were smashed and they went from rank 1 to rank 700,000,0000,000,000 or you get the point. The 3 other sites that I did not touch, left everything the way it was and they were fine! What??? G00gle had me go and screw myself. They are smart.

So, after realizing what the deal was I started using my old techniques again on some of the other sites since I figured they were screwed anyway. Software sites, article directories, a little forum commenting, yahoo answers, and of course Social Bookmarks. It has now been 5 months of doing this and my sites are once again gaining in rank. So the next time I read about the big bad Panda coming I am not going to screw myself again. It gets me thinking. How many people did G00gle get to disavow and take down their own links? Was that the plan? Personally I never disavowed any of my links but I know many who did. The point? SEO is still alive and kicking as long as you don't quit. Just keep working at it and testing different methods. Some work, Some don't but the thing that never works is quitting. :)

I'm new to SEO but I buy alot of gigs on fiverr and alot of them look spammy after I check them but I'm still climbing up on the search engine results and I even get more of an immediate boost after doing some press release. Gives me a boost for about 4-5 weeks then I have to re release a new PR otherwise I start going down again.

Never believe the hype. I agree. After six months of work I lost a site to Penguin. That site is now paying my bills.

If they give up on SEO then they're clearly better off without it. SEO is for people with patience, that're willing to wait to pull in the large dollah' signs.

    Who would?

2012 was easily my most succesful year for SEO based sites. Had a few hit in networks as I had used a little too much interlinking. But that aside, in terms of ranking, cash generation and client satisfaction - 2012 was EASILY my best year...purely due to SEO.
