I was reading the shit-list sub-forum recently and looks like there is a guy or a group of guys who are pulling off the same scam again and again using different profiles. It could be a different set of people but the pattern is evident.

What they're doing is creating new accounts/purchasing old BHW accounts, bumping up their post count, upgrading their account to 'Premium' or 'Jr. VIP' and then targeting the 'Want to Buy' and 'Hire a Freelancer' sub-forum. Mostly trying to sell Google ads accounts or similar accounts, be it stealth paypal or stripe account.

I don't understand why people fall for such scams again and again. I'm sure most people just ignore the rules and newbie guides that the mods have put together to help new users.

@Zwielicht has put together a thread about how to research BHW sellers before purchasing anything from them:

The above thread covers every possible thing for your due diligence.

Don't use irreversible payment methods when buying from a user unless they have years of history and feedback. Buying from a 'Premium member' or a 'Jr. VIP' does not guarantee that you'll not get scammed. If you get unsolicited messages just report them to the mods.

The trade here on BHW is mostly clean with very few scammers, thanks to the staff. Let's keep it that way by not being foolish when trying to score a too good to be true deal.

I have said for years to people, just check and recheck the persons posting history.
It doesn't matter if they have a 10 year old account, if they posted 5 times 10 years back, then vanished and suddenly reappear, makes 95 posts very quickly, then upgrades = Alarm bells.
Anyone with an old account of say 10 years, only done 110 posts but has their profile hidden = Alarm bells

People don't use common sense and go for the cheap option trying to save money and end up losing it all in the end.

It’s the same bunch of guys for sure and they’ve been targeting BHW for a few years now. There’s also a bunch targeting the FB section going by “Nguyen something”. It’s like each section has a dedicated bunch of scammers.
