A lot of people on here promote products from Amazon, physical products. They get into these micro niches that get about 1-2 sales a day, and are happy with that $3 commission from a $30 product, they sometimes scale it up to about 3-4 sites, and end up getting on average under $20/day. Now to be fair, to some of the users here (I'm looking at you China, Philippines, India, and part of Eastern Europe!) it is quite a lot of money.

The fact that you could make $600/month, where an average person in Ukraine makes $200/month is quite an accomplishment! It requires minimal money to be put upfront (heck! if you start a tumblr account, it is FREE!) and slowly but surly you can make a living.

But what about instead of making that $3 commission, why not own the entire pie? Screw the pie, why not own the entire bakery?

Here is what I'm talking about... (2 REAL EXAMPLES)

I use to promote Amazon for quite a small niche. The niche use to be "Racoon Tail Keychains" - They tail was 100% fake (because here in Canada you can't harm animals) and sold anywhere between $12 and $30 for the more err "high-end" one. Cool, minimal profit, maximum stress. Checking everyday if those little suckers would sell, and just make enough to buy a couple of beers at the club every weekend.

The lifestyle of the rich and famous!

Second thing I was promoting on Amazon were Slim Wallets / Card Wallets / Money Wallet Clips - This niche is booming like you wouldn't believe it! Mostly targeted towards males who love big cellphones (think of Android S4/5) but now can't fit their wallet, keys and cellphone into their pockets.

Cellphone? They need. Keys? They NEED! Wallet... Well... All they really need are the cards, and a few cash bills. So they reduce the size of their wallets. $30 - $100 a unit, an okay commission from that!

Still wasn't enough money. Those people were making a killing from me without lifting a finger.

Here is what I have done... I've contacted India and China, I made those racoon tails for about $0.30/tail, and those wallets for $4/wallet, shipped it all to Canada. Made a 'fake' company, but corporate looking website. Made some high quality YouTube videos, always updating my Instagram with new pictures.

And the crazy part is... Orders multiplied by 4! Profit? LOL.... A lot.. A LOT MORE! 0% commission since it is my product, 85% profit on the wallets, and nearly 90% profit from the racoon key chains.

Moral of this story? If the product you are selling is physical, and isn't technological (TVs, cellphones, etc.) get China or India to do it for you for nearly nothing, ship it back home (where ever home is for you) and sell it that way.

So are you selling these on amazon/ebay or did you actually create your own e-commerce site?

Question... how are you promoting the business? How did you build up subscribers/followers on those 2 social sites?

I specifically asked HOW he was marketing and getting followers/subscribers.

He could have black hat methods he is using, he could be buying views or followers from somewhere... God is in the detail. I fucking know he has a site and he using instagram, otherwise why would I ask specifically how he was getting FOLLOWERS (for instagram) and SUBSCRIBERS (for youtube - seem you did not even catch that he was using youtube).

It's good but if you not have money then stay as a affiliate for some time and then create your own product.

I think he mentioned instagram just as a social page which helped his company to look legit. it's normal to have few social profiles which help your site to look legit.

He is talking about small niche sites and i think he was using site. Using yt or any social page with affiliate is not good imo.
About followers/views he might have purchased few, But you can by views/followers using legit methods like ads.

The actual direction of this thread is how creating your own product can get you more $$. promoting product is different thing.

Hey! - I wouldn't call it eCommerce, since that word scares me! - It is a basic website with 5 products on each website. Each product has its own page with a model posing for it, specs of the product, different photography shots of it, and a "buy" button. Hope that answers your question :)

Oh, and also, I have about... 500 wallets here at home, and about 1500 tails

100% Instagram ONLY for both products.

Before I got 10 models, and snapped over 100 photos with each model really quickly. Took the entire day, but now I have enough photography to last me about a year and a half if not more! Of course besides the products I post random quote pictures, etc.

No Facebook (Facebook is horrible btw! Tried it once, horrible results, said screw it, and now doing only Instagram)

Yes! I use Alibaba 100% - They make it in China/India, and the quality is superb! A few pointers is to ask for the ONE sample to be created and FedEx'd to you (this will requite to open a FedEx account, which is FREE, but you'd have to pay for shipping of the product, still fairly cheap).

Also, shop around. You can ctrlv/ctrlc as many times as you want. When I was looking for my manufacturer, I messaged maybe.. 200 people within 10 minutes? Opened a million windows, and copied the message many times.

Oh sorry, haha! I thought you meant "How" as in... What social site, etc?

I go by Hashtags and then I go by stealing competitors or indirect competition followers.

So when you are on Instagram, you can go to someones account and see who is following them. Then you start adding those people.

The beauty of that is that Instagram is mainly used in North America and 'the rich parts of Europe' so shipping isn't a problem at all!

I don't use any bots, everything is by hand. I comment a lot, and they are detailed comments.

I usually comment about 150 - 200 characters, unique to the pictures.

Brilliant ! Evergreen niche product can make it, and coupled with low cost of initial investment.

Just like the question above, if you're not using amazon/ebay then it's most likely your own ecommerce solution.

Hey! Go to Alibaba :) Depends on what watch you want, they can make it! Usually if it is not a complicated watch ($5000+), they can do it for a really good price! If you want those plastic watches that we all had as kids that had a calculator on them that go for around $20-$40 (depends how cool it looks), you can get them from China for $1 a unit, but you need to order 500 units minimum.

It is a ecommerce, but when I think of ecommerce, I think of massive scale sites.
These are simple (but well designed!) websites with a simple PayPal option :)

Also, I have a small bakery, and just to give you an example. If I want to order coffee cups (those disposable ones)that are made in Canada... They go for about $0.30 a cup! If I order from China (same quality, with paper work) I get them for about $0.03! MASSIVE DIFFERENCE!

You remind me of the biography I read by Tony Hsieh on how he started with this method and how he made a small fortune with it. I believe with your creative mindset you will even be on his level. Heh.

    Thanks! :)

The hardest part is actually ordering all that crap. A bit scary because they are thousands of KMs away! And you don't quite know how it'll turn out and all, and of course you need to put a bit upfront. But as the saying goes... "You need to spend money, to make money"
