    It happens all the time.

    What's a jumper?

Definition: A jumper is a person who starts something then jumps from opportunity to opportunity, idea to idea, without achieving much success.

Have you ever met a "jumper?" Sound familiar?

A jumper doesn't experience success in a short period of time, so what happens next?

They blame the business; they blame the lack of an opportunity.

And then, they quit. And move onto another new job.

"Jumpers" forget the cardinal rule of success, or maybe they just never knew it.

You succeed by persevering through FAILURE.

If you don't believe this, just pick up biographies of people who have achieved tremendous success.

Abraham Lincoln, Oprah, Michael Jordan, Colonel Saunders, just to name a few.

Success is a concept that tests you.

It challenges your will to see if you are worthy of its rewards.

Most people are jumpers in that they give up and quit way too early.

They do not allow themselves to persevere and their success to evolve.

They're reluctant to accept being INSIGNIFICANT while they're just starting out. (If I don't have success or make money in the next month, what will I do? What will my family/friends say?)

Nobody ever became successful before they crawled over the broken glass called insignificance.

If people had the mental and emotional strength to stay in the game longer and allowed themselves to grow into their new positions, the success rates at new jobs would be drastically higher.

Don't be a jumper! Fail forward!

Then success will be just around the corner.

You didn't ride smoothly the first time you got on your bike did you? You probably even fell to the ground a couple of times.

Persevere. It can and will pay off for you!

that's copy-pasted article.. but is so much truth in it...

Also, don't be a serial ebook downloader because this will lead to you being a jumper :D

    This is so true.
There are so many ways to earn money online.
All the succesfull people keep repeating: focus on 1 opportunity and STAY focused.
Get rich overnight schemes still lure (mostly) noobs into their nets and cause disappointment to those who tried these schemes.

I'm making money now from two business plans. They make money constantly and it is not until now that I can look at other posiblities to make money and use my earnings to invest. Once you're used to this way of making money you can focus on more than just one plan.

So for all out there with no earnings at all: take one plan, focus and give it time.

    LOL. :D

Well, I think what you've written there is absolutely spot-on. For me personally, this whole IM game has been a tumultuous affair to say the very least. I'm a couple of months in now and not one day has gone by when I haven't been plugging away at the keyboard.

I have absorbed a tremendous amount of information almost to the point where I can't ever rest from it.

Even when I turn the computer off and try and relax my mind is still spinning around with "Squidoo, Stumble, Blackhat, Whitehat, SEO, Clickbank, Youtube, Myspace, Facebook, Blogosphere, content, articles, indexed, de-indexed, blacklisted, guru, noob, commissions, bookmarking, cookie stuffing, craigslist, E-books, adsense, arbitage, adwords, adbrite, cloaking, blogging, landing pages, doorway pages, ringtones, PLR, MFA, MRR, PPI, CPA, CPC, CTR, CPM.....and I think you get the idea....

I've tried most of it and the stuff I haven't I've read a lot about.

I've exhausted myself mentally and physically and frustrated myself in to areas I didn't think previously possible. I mentioned in another post a while back that I can have massive mood swings in relation to making a success where sometimes I'm incredibly upbeat and success is only a whisker away and other times when I have felt like a complete reject failure at being unable to see any real results.

    It's been tough. Very tough.

I've always felt that with all the information available (sometimes too much) I still don't have a clear picture at how you achieve (x=amount of work)=(y=Profit)

A lot of it is filling in the gaps yourself which can be overwhelming when you don't know if there will be a result or not. A lot of the time it can feel like effort put in has a great chance of being completely pointless and there is no 'Do-this-then-this Elite' program to show you the way

As it stands today I've made $150 from over two months of intense work (sometimes 17 hours in front of the damn computer.)

One affiliate sale, about 20 dollars from adsense and a lucky sign-up at Adult Friend Finder I managed by writing an E-book on internet dating that lazypig shared the method on.

Hardly booking that cruise around the Caribbean yet but at least it is something. I have a number of sites up (one of them is in my sig and I'm very proud of it even if it isn't really geared towards monetization) most of which are MFA sites which have yet to be indexed and take a huge amount of work to make. I have also started making some adult blogs on autopilot to see if that works as well.

I feel like I'm constantly afraid of the Big G giving me the Google Bitchslap and it all being for nothing, but I soldier on.

As for your original point about jumping from one thing to another I have been definitely guilty of this.

I think the points I made before are why that happens. There is often no short-term indication whether something you are doing is going to become a result or not. It's a very hard way to work. Add to that having to be your own sole motivator and it can be very difficult.

I have settled in to building small adsense sites and blogs, mostly with articles from other places (the rewriting of these even with software is arduous so I mostly just plonk them in as is) and coupling the subject with affiliate deals.

I don't know if it will work, I can only pray that it will and use my small set of skills to make sure they do to the best of my ability.

But I'm always on the verge of jumping head first in to something else without much forethought of where I have just been or where I'm going.

Recently I've got better at curbing this negative attitude and I am slowly, slowly, building a web presence. (well, if I get indexed)

I think I crave some indication that there is a method that a) I know I am capable of doing well and b) I can replicate en mass.

I have yet to find that indication and that's what makes this biz so tough. When and 'if' I do it is going to the biggest breakthrough imaginable for myself and my self-esteem at succeeding in IM.

Until then I have to crack on. The jumping phenomena is very obvious in this field because of the way people can get lost and with the lack of indications that anything is working.

Sticking with a small section of things you feel even half comfortable with is the key to success (I imagine.)

Sorry for the tangent, it's just that the topic is a very relevant one.

I've been guilty of 'jumping' myself when it comes to online stuffs. I've kept my 9-5 job for close to six years tho. ADD is a bitch.

    I always jump... :(

If you can focus on 1 thing, you will be the one.

But it is hard to do it in this information overloaded decade.

Now i have jumped on ebay without any success yet but i am more determined to stay with it because there is a lot a potential even with the new rules that all the bitches cry about

And if eBay is not a success then i will get my jumping shoe's again :D

I am guilty as well.Being bombarded daily with so money ways to make money on the internet I just don't seem to be able to focus on any particular area.

What would be the top three areas one should concentrate on and with focus and persistence in any one of these three have a chance of success.

I mean should it be adsense or adwords or list building or affiliate marketing etc..

    Thanks.

LOL. I thought you were talking about a jumper like in the new movie "Jumper". I would love to be one of those kind of jumpers. You can head across the world in a matter of a few seconds. The kind of jumping discussed in this thread is definitely bad, but it was the other jumping that got me in here.

That is a question only you can answer.

The main thing is to just focus on one or a combination and test, test, test...

There is nothing wrong with quitting... just don't quit too early without giving any method you choose enough testing.

Hey, Warren Buffett cut his losses in a few stocks and Microsoft gonna quit their Vista adventure soon.... but they did push it as far as it can go.

Yep, I'm very jumpy myself or loose interest quickly unless it goes apeshit right off the bat. I'm getting better at it. (Trying, anyway)

Marlon Sanders addressed this problem, but in a different manner. It is available on a YouTube video (below). It would be quite funny if it were not so true. (Actually, it is still quite funny. The pertinent part only starts a little over halfway through.)

I know I need this kick in the pants. I think I have seen this about 10 times so far.

    hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSVonFUhNfI

Marlon talks about getting products done, but the same thing applies to setting up a sales project.

it's definitely important to focus. the guys that make it big always focus on one thing. one website, one business, etc. in warfare, it's always about concentrating force. when your opponent is scattered, you concentrate force and destroy him at his joints and mop him up. that's how napoleon conquered europe. no different with the internet.

the guys that run one website will be more successful than the guys running 1000 websites.

Been guilty as charged of what has been said here. Thanks for the reminder.
