So I just read that someone paid $1500 for the first spot in line at Apple San Fran for the iPhone 5.

Sure, that's a lot of money but on the bright side, it was probably a news corp or something.

Anyways, someone commented "No. Give the money to charity if you'll so recklessly spend it."

I'm all for charity, and my family has donated 5 figures this year, but these people who are jealous of the rich and say "donate to charity instead" really get to me.

Even worse, when they tell someone like Warren Buffet or Bill Gates to donate. If any of you know a thing or 2 about those guys, they've got a few dollars, but they've also donated billions already, probably a higher % of earnings than most of us ever will. It's not like these guys owe it, they worked long hours, 7 days a a week, without doubt, and sacrificed family and friend relationships. In my opinion, if you've worked that hard, I don't think anyone has the right to say what you should do with your wealth.

I have a feeling that these people that are saying "donate your money to charity instead of buying yourself luxury", are some huge 9-5 society-draining slackers that feel the world owes them everything.

    What are your thoughts?

PS: I'm not intending to offend anyone, and as I said, I'm all for charity.

    ^^That.

Money is a medium of exchange. When you buy that luxury item, money does not get burnt in an oven. It simply goes to other hands and now they get to exchange it for other people 's products.

What effectively happens when you buy stuff is that you outsource the charity function to others and still get the products  Let 's see how much they give :D
