In my search for PBN domains I am seeing a lot of domains that at one time or another had some Chinese content on them. Does this mean avoid the domain like the plague? If the backlink profile looks good and unspammed but it once had a Chinese site does that mean the domain is now worthless or has anyone successfully started a PBN on a domain like that?

well it depends, if the site was originally a chinese site with ton of natural links, then it is good.

If it was resurrected then stay away from it.

Yep, you should avoid them like a plague. I've managed to start a few PBN sites on domains with previous Chinese content, but 2 out of 3 are penalized, regardless the anchor text, so it's up to you if you are willing to risk it, when you go with clean domains. :)

unless you know chinese and you know the site was legit, i would avoid such domain.
If you're seeing all natural backlinks, I would think the legit site used to be in English, then it got dropped and somebody put some Chinese garbage there, then it got dropped again.

Yes, because Google Translate doesn't exist.

No shit Sherlock!

right, google translate can translate so perfectly that the op would be able to tell if the chinese was spun garbage or normal, sensical and grammatically correct.

Oh right. Because domains get penalized left and right for not having grammar on point. :) So called Chinese Grammar Nazi 2.0 update, currently rolling out by Google. Oh yes and btw, most of those "Chinese" domains that we refer to as Chinese are actually Japanese.

And spun content would be the least of my troubles when seeing a domain with "Chinese history". It's not really hard to see if it was a Chinese PBN domain in 5 seconds or not, even with Google Translate.

Yes, you should avoid domains that turned into something different like for example it was turned into a Chinese blog network because either they were spammed or under google's penalty.
