I do find it amusing that you compared this website to GoDaddy. They do pretty much pull the same shit, don't they? Hidden fees, outrageous prices, etc.

Well, even if you don't actually keep most of the domains you buy but you think you have a chance you will keep them, I would still go with Namecheap, Namesilo and InternetBS. If any of those domains take off and become successful, it can become a nightmare to deal with these shitty registrars. I love the last 2 because they have free privacy for life, no BS prices, no hidden fees or ridiculous renewals, etc... Namecheap is the same except that they offer privacy only for first year.

Yes, GD pulls the same shit. My advice above for carefully checking out the cart before paying was mostly aimed at them. You buy a domain for $1 with coupon or even normally without coupons and you will find your cart in the end $50 or something like that with privacy that costs even more than the domain itself, email services and all kind of other shit that you never added yourself.

I'm going to register my new domain with Namesilo. I've heard good things about them from this forum. And the free privacy for life is a plus.

Seems like a good offer, but honestly, there seems to be lots of neg talks about this registrar. WHY risk it for cents?

I might try them out for domains i have absolutely nothing to loss.

OK. I've had a few website ideas i've been wanting to play with, so I bought the 3 domains at .50 each today. Here's what I ran into.

They're pretty tricky with adding services to bump up the price. The privacy protection was already added. You have to remove it manually, but the remove link is faint, and nearly the same color as the background. Those needed removed, especially as they're $11 each. After that the domains default to purchase for 3 years, instead of just one year, costing way more money so make sure you pay attention to that. Also, auto-renew was automatically checked, so make sure you uncheck that.

Now, after I finally got my ticket price down to $1.50 I input my CC info only to have it declined. I tried again and it was declined again. I said f' it and quit, only to get two emails two minutes later from amex telling me my cc was charged...twice. I had to call register customer service only to be told, "check it again in a few days. the charges should be gone." While I had him on the phone I went ahead and had him run the card. It went through, as I suspected it would. The catch though is that to renew the domains after one year it will cost $40 each. Way, way too expensive, but I'll be done with them within a year anyways, and I unchecked "auto-update" so I'm not too concerned.
