    hey guys

just wanted how is it handled if you buy/create domains like cnnxxx.com or foxnewsxxx.com (XXX stands for keyword etc)

I own 2 domains (Bought via offline payment + 100% anonymous offshore)

I could host anonymous too if i want to (but have no idea how to use them lol). Just wanted to ask what can happend if i post at my private space (rl paid)

I had a Foxnewsxxx.com domain, hosted anonymously offshore. They tracked back my affiliate link and my affiliate manager rang me to forward a DMCA C&D. Fox were pretty cool though, just asked to take the site down and transfer the domain. As long as you comply they are alright.

Yep, that's pretty much the long and short of trademark C&D's - they try to track you down, send you a bunch of legalese, if you take the site down you'll be alright. I've heard of requests to transfer the offending domain, and know that I think about it I got such a request once. But I just took the site down and let the name lapse (it had 2-3 months left at the time). I've heard generally that most trademark holders don't want to be bothered with a WIPO dispute once the site is down, and that's been my experience too.

I don't spend a lot of time on trademarks since you always run that risk of losing the site or getting dragged into a protracted dispute.

Twitter and Ebay are notorious for sending C&D's for any use of their trademark in a domain name.

I have been OK with amazon trademarks and car brand trademarks so far though.

Oh, and Mike Fil.sAim.e threatened to sue me too :)

I can vouch for that too. Had a number of twitter domains I listed on sedo for sale and got C&D's within 12 hours lol.

Heh, it's a good idea to simply avoid those domains IMHO.

I used to have a domain along the lines of yahoo-bot.com that was never used publicly, more of a c&c for my yahoo bots at the time :p
long story short now yahoo owns that domain and from the class action summons yahoo aquired a butload of domains.
There were some nice ones in the lists too, couldn't help but feel sorry for the guys who had yahoos.com Or yahootravel.com etc as they were quite established At the time

so flip em to a friend for $ and say good by to them, save the headaches

That's a riot with the domain name - was the domain productive? I assume you used it for affiliate marketing.

Are you kidding me? Viacom is nuts with Copyright. URLs like that are not a long term plan, they will work okay short term sure, but if someone is searching for CNN for example they are not going to click your site when the CNN result is right next to it.
