domain vs subdomain - which one is better?

for example, let's say i'm doing a review for a clickbank product regarding cats.
Which one is better?

or
www.catreview.com

Does google prefer domain than subdomains? Is it more "SEO-friendly"?

I think it would be better if you use a paid domain. It looks better for the customer, and about the seo, its all depends on how you build the backlinks

From my testing I have found that the advantage of keyword in URL is 2:1 from domain to sub domain. If not i would jsut write a script to hand the DNS and do KEYWORD.whatever.com and then pull out the keyword from sub domain and make a generated page out of it, there for just linking to my site created thousands of keyword rich urls and term pages. (shy of using subdomains that is what i do now anyway lol)
