Domain transfer question???

Hello all

I have a domain transfer question..

I have a .com($8.99) domain name regged on name.com. It expires on 21 May 2010.

Now, I want to transfer it to namecheap. They charge $7.99 for transfers.

Now if I tranfer my domain to namecheap, I will pay them $7.99. Now will the expiry date change to the new date?
Or it will remain the same and 21 May 2010?

This means that I can transfer my domain when it is going to expire to a cheaper registrar and the date will change and I will pay the new yearly price??

Correct me if I am wrong!!

Namecheap has no transfer fees. You pay, but you'll get an additional year on your domain.

And you can't transfer soon to expire domains, or recently bought domains (less than 60 days)
