    Hi guys,

my webhost is dreamhost and domain host is godaddy. Well, normally my domain works with "www" and without "www". But since few days I noticed my traffic dropped and yesterday I figured out that http://mywebsite.com doesn't work anymore. Only the one with www.mywebsite.com works.

Anyone an idea whats wrong with that suddenly?

I was changing the password of the mysql database, but could that be the reason?

right now, I totally fucked it up. Changed something on dreamhost and they show me:
[h=1]Site Temporarily Unavailable[/h] We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/ tech support immediately to have them rectify this. error id: "bad_httpd_conf"

well...I changed everything like before, but still not working. Maybe I have to wait for some hours...

To avoid duplicate content, usually you don't want your site to work with www. and without because then you have 2 URLs with the same content. It's recommended to always to a 301 redirect from one to the other to avoid that. You could try editing the .htaccess file to add a 301 redirect from without to the www.

Looks like you have modified something wrongly in the httpd.conf. What kind of server do you have? Best option will be to contact the support team btw.

Sure, but I think it has something to do with Dreamhost and the nameserver / ip. I sent a support ticket already

    Could be a redirection issue.

You could redirect the non-www to www version of the site, and set the preferred URL to one with www in GWT.

I am going to take a wild guess and say that you are using Wordpress. Look in your general settings, you have the option of the domain name. See image.
