    Hello everyone

Wanting your advice on choosing a domain name.

Is it better for SEO and business if I was to use something like buy_____.com

    Or optionally like mybusinessname.com ?

One says directly what your looking to buy. The other is just a company name.

What is best for SEO ect?

All inputs are welcomed and thanks in advance!

    Mike

This is true, it's a good idea to go "straight to the point" - both with any product websites, as well as business websites.

I've recently secured the main domains for my upcoming registered business, and I just went BusinessName.com (and other main extensions, because you know...). Currently I'm working with entertainment services, but I might not want to bring that up in my domain name, because if my other projects kick off even half as good as the current one, I might want to get them under the same name as well.

For example, let's say that the name I've chosen for my company is "Hairy Badger". For the time being, I haven't decided upon "Hairy Badger Media" or "Hairy Badger Entertainment", but I like them both. But being the paranoid I am, I want to secure all the possibilities without overdoing it. So I've registered "hairybadger.com". This is short, easy to remember, and can be used with practically any combination I finally decide upon.

SEO wise it has no negative nor positive sides. Heck, you can rank "JapanOilRigShipping.com" to number one for "Truck Windshield Repair Dallas" if you want to! There are many opinions as to "which is the best", but I'd say just go for the simple BusinessName - or a shorter version of it, in case you have very long business name.

Domain has nothing to do with your SEO. The big example is godaddy.com. Do you really think, it looks like a hosting or domain registrar company?

    Build a brand name.

Thank you all for your opinions and given advice from experience.

Now here is a question. Say I am selling rings just for example. If I am using PPC or PPV to bring in leads along with SEO should I choose a name that sells itself like for example:

    buyrings.com

Or am I better off making some brand or business name like:

    Diamondcut.com

The first one does tell anyone even looking at the link what it is about. The second one however is a mystery?

Thanks allot and looking forward to the input.

    Mike

Yea, in my opinion, it all depends on what you want to do. Although having the Kw in the domain can still help with SEO, you can still get sick rankings without an EMD style domain. If you want to build an authority site and continue growing it - build a brand, forget the keyword. If you jsut want to build a quick site to make some paper and aren't really invested in it's long term growth, go for the buy_____.com

Thank you for your reply. Actually I am starting to think of it like this...

Buy____.com = Good for quick sells in a small efficient ecommerce site.

mybusiness.com = Good for long term growth and branding.

    Am I thinking right?

The advantage to the first option is it advertises right in the link :D

Now you're just overthinking it :p

Doesn't matter SEO wise, and there's no difference with PPC. But given how cheap domains are, why not take both?
