domain name with trademark

Hi

I am in the process of opening my own website. Is it true if i have a webdomain with the actual product or competitor brand it will be ranked high in google? For instance there is www.walmart.com if i choose www.walmart.co.uk or www.cheapwalmart.com is this permissible? Sorry if it sounds silly iam new to to internet marketing.

I would suggest against it. The domain name can help in search engine rankings. It will still take work to rank high in the search engine. Also some companies will closely guard their name and may sue if you buy a name similar to theirs. In most cases the name is probably already bought by some one.

In 1 month time after launching the domain name officemaxcoupons.info I got a letter in the mail to my house and an email to my primary email account from officemax lawyer with a lawsuit if I didn't give them the domain and remove it from the internet. So...no do not do this it is a waste of time...

It's not a silly question.

My advice, don't do it. It's very to come up with domain names that will include a brand name or trademark.

But as mentioned above, you will most likely hear from the legal dept...

Actually I am thinking to do the same but it seems the risk is very high. I am afraid of dealing with legal stuff too.

thanks to everyblody for their kind informative replies. I just made a new discovery which i should share with you all. If you buy a domain name register it in a country with no copyright law ie. china/jamaica/india. It can be hosted there too or and there are also anonymous domain/host company. I found one katzglobal. You can also register it in a company name so there is no personal liability. for example walmart.co.uk is owned BY BARGAINS GALORE not John Smith. Its expensive compared to the clean route but if you are new starting out and like me cannot afford too muh money for pay per clicks then this may be an alternative.
