    Basic and simple question.

I know search engines recognize the words like "the" "of" "and" etc but to what effect and extent?

    Ex.
    facebook com
    thefacebook com

Although I know that is an insane comparison (Facebook wins no doubt) how do search engines take that into account? I had an epiphany, thought of a great domain name to serve as a 'Marquee' type site, checked it and available. (Best ideas just come to you, hehe) Upon removing the "the" and searching that domain it was available but as a 'Premium Domain' So, now I really want the one with the "the" realizing its closest relative is a premium sale.

How does my domain fair in comparison? It is a word already recognized as an obsolete or minor word by search engines.
What are some standout differences in SEO?
    Anything else?

(btw, I do know it is better to have them out. I delete them from my permalinks)

    I think so.
I it totally different between "the facebook" and "thefacebook" in term of searching for words, the first one is still counted and considered as 2 words, and the latter is 1 word.

If the keyword is play poker,

I think playpoker.com will get more of a boost than

    happensplaypoker.com

even though happens is a stop word.

but what about "how to get girlfried.com" and "how to get A girlfriend.com"? Adwords kw tool shows, that people are searching for the one with an A.

exact match is best, but if you can't get it then another short word in there isn't too bad

"ignoring" in this case means that the search engines overlook it. Dogtraining.com is not available, but putting bestdogtraining.com would give the domain almost the same power as the exact match one.

This is by far one of the better debates Id think. I wish I could announce the domain I bought but the one without "THE" was $1000 and mine...was 7.99

    THEdomain.com
    domain.com

When it comes to searching it would make more sense to include the word THE. Do you think it varies on importance depending on search volume ? Has too right?

Just looked at the list again.

"s" ignored? Second? Neither of those are true

    Domain
    DomainS

that has an entire different CPC and search volume.

I see they have a great client list, Alexa rating, PR2, not a bad site...but I am a little wary to follow anyone who doesn't realize that "S" actually does have an effect. Not to mention they have a hyphen (-) in their domain name, couldn't of thought of something better? Need more answers! Haha

    Follow up question:

What is better on a domain:

    domain.com
    www.domain.com

I know you can't have them both but does one dominate over the other?

And for those of you who can access your site and it shows both a www and not one in the title bar without a 301 redirect to one or the other you may want to fix that asap.

the specific words you mentioned are considered "stop" words to google and they are not a factor and will not harm or help your serp. that is according to that seo guru who published that book last year (seo 2010?) and says he assisted with googles algorithm - i dont know if its true or current, but the book was great.
