I have a site that will be hosted offshore for legal reasons but my domain is registered with a US based company. I know I can transfer but I was wondering can I keep my domain with a US company and host the site offshore? Will this expose me to the sharks or am I ok so long as I have whois protection?

Well whois information can be easily obtained. The good news is it is not likely for the registrar to take the site down but they will give up your information and you can open to a law suit. I don?t know where you host now offshore but I use Highsecured.com and the offer domain registration in trust so even if whois information is released it is registered in a trust and as they are a law firm in panama they are much more protected. They even offer the service with registering the domain in trust in china. That?s what I went for as I was involved in a federal litigation over copyright. Once I moved the site offshore to panama and with highsecured.com I was able to get the litigation dropped. Over a few dollars a year why would you not move it to be protected. I think they only offer the service to customers that host with them but they are my recommendation for a offshore host anyways. If you don?t want to switch then check what your current host offers or do it yourself separately at least.
