Domain has not been renewed?

Hello, last year I was interested in a domain but it was already registered (not in use, just registered).
I spoke with the owner and he wanted a huge amount for the domain ($ 600 if I'm not mistaken).
I ended up registering the .tech for just a few dollars.
But now I consulted WHOIS and the question came to me: Has the domain not been renewed?

i believe it will be in hold for one month or two after the expired date, then it will be available again.
i hope if some experts confirm my information above
