I watched it some time back and yes, I cried. The fact that it is based on a true story made me even more emotional.

Favorite moments:

Falling asleep on the couch eating popcorn with Hachi,
Hachi digging under the fence to go to the train station for the first time,
The first time Hachi hears the train coming and jumps the fence to go meet his owner,
The part where the owner take a shot in the face from a skunk to stop Hachi getting sprayed,
Hachi's first fetch.

Damn! Just reading this makes me sad again :(

Full disclosure....

I was not a lover of dogs..... Until I watched this movie when it was released,
and yes, it made me do a 180 degree U turn on my perception of dogs.....
especially now that our puppy dog sits patiently at the front door waiting on the kids returning
from school everyday... it is so weird (yet understandable) the way that humans get attached to a pet,
yet we fail to realise fully how much the pet depends on, and gets so attached to, its master.

When the movie came out, I also told many friends that it was a must see movie,
not just because Richard Gere was in it :), but because it was so powerful in its simplicity.

Highly recommended

I watched this huchiko dog story, it is unbelievable...
you watch bond grow between the lost pup and
Richard gear , then the dog steals the film over the
last 25 mins, everyday waiting patiently outside the
station through snow wind rain, he waits.
9 yrs. its the dogs final moments b4 he dies
were you sence the dog is dreaming and his master
walks through the train station doors, and the walk
of together, and the camera pans to the sky.
no matter how tuff you think you are, this film will grab
you right at the end and rip your heart out. if your a
dog lover .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D

In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo, took in Hachikō, a golden brown Akita, as a pet. During his owner's life, Hachikō greeted him at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return. The professor had suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage and died, never returning to the train station where Hachikō was waiting. Every day for the next nine years the dog waited at Shibuya station.

Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachikō and Professor Ueno together each day. They brought Hachikō treats and food to nourish him during his wait. This continued for nine years with Hachikō appearing precisely when the train was due at the station.

a bronze statue sits outside the station of the dog - still waiting Shibuya Station

i am so damn curious about this film after reading the thread - as i am a doggy-guy ever since...
...but reading the story alone touches me deeply not knowing if i am willing to take it.

if have seen the dog of one of my best friends (a girl - which is like a sister to me) standing right infront of our home...
...all covered in blood because she jumped through a closed glass-door to get out through the garden and run some kilometers to stand in front of our place barking to get me in action.
...i put her in the car and headed to her place while my girl was caring about the wounds of her guardian angel as good as possible. she (my friend) had collapsed inside, right infront of her own door, trying to get help. she suffered a desease that could have easily killed her - and she would be dead today because they changed her treatment - if it weren`t about her dog.
(that about understanding the absolute loyalty these animals will have and give...)
...still makes me cry today and right now - because some rotten neighbour did poison the dog a few months later for whatever reason.

and please respect the OP to be "pissed" for posting vid`s about dogs that have to die...
...theres so much cruelty all along the way - not only regarding dogs. but thats not the point.

will grab my girl and tissues - trying to survive the story...

i politely pmd midnight_focus and asked him to remove his
video from this thread or i did say ille report it, as ive already
had 1 removed his reply was

If you can't see the moral in the video it's not my fault so yes you are gonna have to make em 2

midnight_focus are u generally stupid or is it just normal for you?
does this thread say anything about animal cruelty ? no it
doesnt so why do you feel the need to take a good thread about
a dog and his bond with 1 man and turn it into a cruelty thread
quit it. and any mod if u will please remove his viedo

of course i do not like animal-cruelty either - as an animal-friend, especially a dog-lover...
...so anyone who didn`t read the thread in whole - do it before connecting things that do not fit together and respect the OP as he wants to point out the real value and the unbelievable connection an animal can support you with.

theres a real valueable lesson mankind can be taught by seeing what proxygo wants to point out here...
...inside of that it handles animal-cruelty by itself.

no need to crap his thread with things that have to be seen also...
...but don`t belong here.

If you haven't watched this mini documentary entitled "Last Minutes with Oden", I highly suggest it.

Marley and Me was soooo rough, that movie got me as a dog lover. This sounds messed up but I have a harder time watching the dog shelter infomercials than the starving children ones. I'll check out this movie though, as much as I don't want to.
