I just use this method to gain extra downloading speed in the Internet

If you use Windows XP Professional then it is possible to squeeze an extra 20% out of your internet connection. By default Windows XP Pro holds back 20% of your Internet speed for various services like windows update and spyware checks.

If you want to tap into this locked speed then make the following changes:

    1. Go to Start-> Run-> and type gpedit.msc
    2. Expand the Administrative Templates branch
    3. Expand the Network tab
    4. Highlight QoS Packet Scheduler
    5. Click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth and check the enabled box
    6. Then Change the Bandwidth limit % to 0 %

Once you have done this click apply and restart your PC. After rebooting you should see a noticeable improvement in your net speed.:D

As for Vista, it won't work in every version:

Group Policy editor is included in domain-based versions of Windows Vista
. The following versions support Group Policy:

    Windows Vista, Small Business Edition

    Windows Vista, Professional Edition

    Windows Vista, Enterprise Edition

    Windows Vista, Ultimate

hey, u know another way to go there ? When I type gpedit.msc, it says - This appilication has failed to start becasuse apphelp.dll was not found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Do u know any other way to reach the group policy window ?

    Code:

i've been using this for months. basically it cut all windows core "reserved" bandwidth. it seems that MS always try to connect to its web for some unknown reason. it even allocates some portion of bandwidth for this reason.

This is the reserved space for windows update , coz windows update needs high priority download bandwidth.... Which seems to be a Crap..:D. Thanks for reading my posts...
