    Hi,

I am creating a new reviews site and using Amazon to make money. I have found a domain name I like. The domain name isn't a product name but it is relevant to the products. Can I still rank my site under the product names rather than get the domain name to 1st page in Google. Its hard to explain what I am asking. My question basically is does the domain name have to be the products names or can it be different and if so can you still get your site to rank easily under different keywords?

    Thanks!

Your saying does it have to br an EMD exact match domain or any domain like instead of pinkpurse.com your site would be pinkstrings.com. Yes you will be able to rank for pinkpurse and interms of how easy it would be to rank for pink purse, well you can definitely rank top for it depends on your competition obviously but other users have said that emds after the penguin update, dont hold as much weight in terms of the google ranking system for that specific keyword as before the penguin update.

Yeah, the only way you can rank for a term is if the term is in your domain name. This wasn't the case in the past but it's a change Google is making to the algorithm soon, and is the reason for the announcement Amazon made about them changing their domain name to one that contains over 100,000 words. It won't be as catchy as "Amazon" but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do if you want to keep your rankings in Google.

I can't agree with the post above.

    Google would never do that.

You can rank whatever domain you want for whatever keyword you want.

The only difference is that you will do it easier with an EMD. But hey good results never come easy.

I even would say that using your own Brand is better. This way after some time, google will recognize your Brand and give your domain more authority, but only if you have valuable content for the users that is unique :) Of course this is the more difficult way to approach things.
