I love to save money where I can.

The alternatives are sometimes half the prices or more but will it impact the earning potential much do you think for ADULT (what I do at the moment but in general too) type in traffic?

Considering many interfaces actually include a ".com" button on the keyboard, no one considers typing .online or .site, I'd say yes. I was also lurking on some domaining forums recently and there was an interesting discussion with some people talking about how many of these new TLDs are going to implode because not enough people have signed onto them to make them financially viable. Spend the extra 50 cents/month and get the .com if it's available. Don't be fooled by first year discounts, often the prices jump after that and use a registrar like NameCheap rather than the insanely expensive one that everyone seems to start with: GoDaddy. Those Super Bowl commercials have to be paid for somehow I suppose.

Edit: Wanted to clarify. .US has been around a while, so I imagine that is here to stay, but I also believe it doesn't allow domain privacy (if that's something you care about).
